When I was growing up, a neighbor lost a lot of weight and walking was her only form of exercise. She DID diet, but walked daily. She probably weighed 250+ when she started. When she "finished", she was about 120 or so. She was smaller that I was and I was a 7 back then!

I have AIDS, and walking regularly keeps my energy up and my vitals at good numbers. If I stop walking for more than a week, I can feel my body getting lax, and that makes it easier for me to get sick. I was, recently, up to 7 miles a day.
Also, I have fun with it. I've made friends with almost every dog in the various yards I pass, and I have a cool game of rating homes on a 0-6 scale, 6 being the best. I take into account the house, the yard style, lighting, etc. It's fun! Nighttime walks are great, because the town is quiet, then, I can meditate while I walk.
It just feels good all over when you walk a lot. Happy Hoofing!

I love to walk. I've been doing it for years. But the only time I seem to lose weight from it is when I drop my caloric intake and drink lots of water. If I just walk and don't diet, I don't see any weight loss.

Well, when I was a teen whose family only had one car, I walked everywhere and for what today's couch-potatoe society would consider long distances. (In the 'old' days, they wouldn't consider it that far.) As a result, I had a nice bubble butt which I thought was fat. Now I drive everywhere and my butt is not that perky. You can definately tell I am lazy about certain types of exercise. I have stairs to climb, but that's obviously not enough. Walking perks up your butt.

Walking is very good if you do it with chin up, and at a good gait. I walk 2 miles a day and lost 60 pounds. Put on the walkman (or ipod) and just go go go! It's a good way to get fresh air too!
