You mean at a wedding reception? I've never seen this done - better to do it at a bridal shower, it will be tacky at the wedding.

I have seen it done by putting the recipe in with the "Congratulations" card.
It is a great way to build up a collection of great ideas for meals.
You can either mention it by word of mouth or put a little note on the card that states where the couple is registered. It's really not much different that creating a registry with a list of stuff you want people to buy you.
If done right, it will look classy and not tacky.

Ok, cold medicine affecting my reading and comprehension skills.

Bringing the ACTUAL food.....no, not a good idea. Cheap, repeat of food, things that people may not like.....yes, very tacky.
Just having someone bring their favorite recipe that they have copied onto a card.....good idea, which I stated above.
People don't want to have to cook before they attend a wedding.

I think it depends on the type of reception. For the less formal occasion this might be an appropriate time to share recipes and hand out the recipe cards.

I've seen this done at the hosted parties - Candles, Baskets, Cookware, Football, etc - where pot-luck refreshments are a popular alternative to the host providing all of the goodies.

You may end up with 10 casseroles at your reception.. I wouldn't recomment it.

What you can do is supply the meat and the beverages and ask for side dishes. You can incorporate your idea of the recipes and at the same time, making sure that your guests are properly fed.

Congratulations and good luck

i think this is a lil bit tacky for a reception, where u from west virginia? if you can't afford to furnish the food just go lighter on the menu. although i don't think it's a bad idea to stick a receipe in their wedding cards if you're trying to get some ideas. take it a step further and type them all our in word and include them in the thank you notes, i'd love a whole bunch of new ideas myself!!!!

Congratulations by the way :-D

Are you asking if this is a good or bad idea? I think it's a great idea for a shower but not so much for a wedding. It's a little tacky for a wedding. I've seen this done at showers before and I think it's really cute and useful. The wedding? Not so much.

That is a little tacky. It's also inconvenient for the guests to carry the food around on the wedding day (if they're from out of town). Unlike a wedding gift, you can't leave food in a car.

That's a whole lot of food, plus your asking people to make food for your wedding! But the recipe idea is a good idea if you have everything you need!

Making guests cater your reception-- not OK.

The recipe cards themselves-- it would be tricky to coordinate but if the guests would go for that project, it's a cute idea.

I'm assuming you're tryng to cut cost here.

Draw up a menu. Recruit some family & friends to help you fix the food & freeze it, little by little as you can afford it. You'll have food stored all over town but what the heck. This will be MUCH better than you asking your guests to fix the food.
