I am currently on the medical card or All Kids in Illinois and just had a baby 6 wks ago. I was wondering if the medical card accepts and IUD as a form of birth control.

LIMBO: Maybe if you knew anything about the program you'd know I have to pay copays and pay for visits too. It's a new program the governor came out with. I just don't get insurance from my job and I pay like any other person. Believe me Ipay taxes to at least I'm not one of the bitches on welfare and I take care of mine okay!

Yes it does Fully! If you go to Erie clinics! I am on the medical card and go there (they are gov funded) and didnt have to pay a red cent. I had to wait for it to be approved when Mirena 1st came out bc it wasnt on thier list yet but I then go pregnant and rite after my son I had it inserted your clinc does have to order it tho so it may take a lil longer than having it put in at your 6wk. best of luck
Erie is on Pulina and Erie (the main center check them out)

I agree, no one should judge you...as for LIMBO, people like you make me sick! You don't know someone's background and shouldn't assume because someone is on assistance they are uneducated. I am on slight assistance because after 5 years my boss dropped all insurance for all employees and their family. My job is a good one and I have my B.A. Degree but my boss is CHEAP! Everyone should have insurance and to answer the main question-Most states that do offer insurance will cover all forms of birth control. In Michigan a woman only keeps her insurance for 6-8 weeks after having the baby, then they drop her. I never used the state's insurance for myself because at the time I didn't need it, now I don't qualify for myself only for my son. Jobs here are limited and since I just bought a house and this is where my family is, I must stay. Make some calls though and do the research on what form of BC is best for you. Good luck, hun.

I don't know anything about this type of assistance/insurance. Your best bet would be to call the number on the back of the card (if there is one) and ask a representative with the state (or whoever administers the benefits).
I found this number on their website:
All Kids Hotline 1-866-All-KIDs (1-866-255-5437)
P.S. If they do pay for it, I suggest the ParaGard (copper, non-hormonal) IUD. It's what I have, and I LOVE it!

I am not going to judge you and yes the program will usually pay for the IUD. You should call them to verify. Also if they wont if you call the local DHR or whoever provides Medicaid they will cover it No questions asked. It is always considered the responsible thing. I hope you and your child are very healthy. Also you should be commended for taking care of yourself and your baby. Ignorant people are one of the reasons so many young girl are now disposing of their babies the way they would an empty hamburger wrapper. I commend you and just because thing sstart out tough does not mean they have to stay that way. I am living proof

In my state of Texas I was on the same program and had the IUD. I believe they will pay for any type of birth control. You can ask your obgyn they should know or simply call the number on your card for this question.

No one should judge you. If you don't wish to have more children that is your choice. I do not know about Illinois, every state is different. They should cover birth control though.
Maybe you have done so (I am not judging you) but please talk to a medical professional about the down side of an IUD. If you have decided that is your chosen method, most physician's offices should know what is covered under the plan. Just ask.
Good luck to you. Please do not worry about people judging you. I don't want to sound preachy but only God can judge us.

There should be a 1-800 number on the back of your cards for benefits. Or maybe you could look it up on their websites. Maybe you could call your local health department and see if family planning has the answer for you?

a medical card USUALLY pays for lots of different birth control because they rather pay for that than a baby. Hun all you can do is call your doctor or call human resources. BEST WISHES
