i use to work at directory enquiries and worked with a guy who'd gone to school with my husband. we use to try make one another laugh when we sat next to one another by doing different accents for every call!

If you haven't ever done this don't bother!
For an Irish person its kinda pathetic when you here people who aren't actually Irish trying to imitate their accent!
The worst for me are those who have been living a couple of months in Ireland and suddenly they are saying the most stupid sayings which people don't actually say ot trying to talk with an Irish accent
It just doesn't work -for those out there who want to be Irish or who want to sound Irish forget it , its a lost cause !!
Please don't do it!!

Dont have to. Although I'm not born Irish my accent gives away that I've lived there for the last 20 years.

No. I'm at least 1/4 Irish so no need to pretend. This is funny...one St. Paddy Day there was this Hispanic drinking his green beer and wearing a cap that said, "I'm Irish if you're buying."

Whenever I'm around Irish people. My father (me da) was from Leitrim, but I've only been there twice. It generally just annoys them.
I drink every day except St. Patrick's Day, so that makes me more Irish than most Irish Americans!

Yes.....when I was at school.....There were two Irish brothers one exrtremely good looking and the other nice but not as good looking but with a heart of gold. I loved their accents and imitated them for months on end until my Mum got fed up with it and said...".Why are you talking like that.? " I had got into the habit and it took me ages to get out of it....imagine a Mediterranean girl with an Irish accent lol !!!!!!

Yes. At the height of the IRA troubles I was in a pub full of Irish people and felt very nervous. Fortunately I knew a liitle (very little) Gaelic.
