I agree with you. How can someone murder two people, get two consecutive (!) live sentences and then be eligible for parole in 2010?! And someone can get a mandatory 20 years sentence for drug possession? Sure, there should be a price to pay for distributing drugs, but using? A lot of people need help, not jail.
And you know what, I think the problem is that the government and all the lobbyists for pharmaceutical companies want monopoly on drugs. They do not need competition. They need to sell you antidepressants, anti-anxiety meds, something to cheer you up, something to come you down, something to speed you up, to slow you down, to put you to sleep, etc. They need to push their drugs. They need your money. And they start it early - you cannot sit still in class - you have an ADD - here is some candy... Yeah, and your desperate housewife mom can have them too. It's really disgusting and disturbing.

I couldn't even begin to give you the reasons why. But i do know that our justice system works totally backwards, what about the 80yr old man that got a 2 month jail sentence for not paying his council tax ???
What about the under age driver that got something like 120hrs community service after he knocked down and killed a young girl playing outside her house ???
I do think we should bring back capital punishment, but even then our courts would get it all wrong and it would be the wrongly convicted person that would be on the receiving end.
Good luck.

People that do or sell drugs can't always be helped. Our world is a sick place and the things that we have to see are crazy. If we put every sick pervert in jail, we as tax payers, would have no money. I have recently started dating a corrections officer and he has told me that there are people in our jails and prisons that you would't even want to look at.
Our world will never be perfect, but our justice system is trying very hard to make our country a better place.

No it isnt fair you see but we have no control over that. I have a friend whose brother got locked up for selling drugs. He is married and has a son, he did eight months in jail and 2 weeks in prison.

That's because the government wants us to live that way. If they legalized pot, it would put the oil & cotton industries out of business. Which would change our entire nation. The old rich white dudes want to keep their power and will do anything towards that means. Even if it means putting old ladies who smoke for arthritis in jail.

If you rape or kill someone, there is just the one victim.
if you sell drugs, there are several victims.
