troops get to send mail (letters) free from Iraq (at least we could when I was there.

Standard letters or cards are free postage from Iraq to the US. Postage for packages will have to be paid though.

Postage rates for overseas bases are the same as stateside. It would be 39 cents for a standard letter. There is a proposal in this year's def budget to allow postage to and from war zones to be postage free. I agree, this is the least we could do for our warriors.

actually in some cases, it could be free.. Look into the Military Postal Service regs.

I received several cards from my husband when he was deployed.. and inthe corner where the stamp should go was the letters MPS.. it never cost him anything to send.

it is free. my bf just writes free mail where the stamp would go when he writes to me. he sent me a package and he had to pay for that but letters and manila envolopes are free.
