Nicotine is actually a poison. One pure drop of nicotine on your tongue would almost instantly kill you.

Instead of being addicted to cigarettes, you've gone to a more pure form of your addiction. Kind of like going from prescription painkillers to injecting heroin directly into your veins.

While the smoke itself is no longer damaging your lungs or the people you used to inflict it upon, I assure you the nicotine is continuing it's insidious damage particularly to your heart.

So, make an effort - lose the gum.

My boyfriend just quit smoking cigarettes and he has been smoking for over 10 years. He used the patches for a few months and now he doesn't smoke anymore. I've heard that the gum can actually be really habit forming and you can become addicted. Maybe you should try the patches. There is also a prescription medication you can get, that I've heard works really well. It's called bupropion (brand name is Wellbutrin). I hope this helps! Good luck!

nicotine is a drug, and like all drugs can cause some harm with long term use.. but in all honesty you'll probably have more problems with tmd (most people call it tmj) from chewing the gum all the time than from the nicotine. and even some mild long term nicotine effect is much better than all the poisons of smoking/chewing and the cancers they can cause. on the other hand, i don't think the gum is intended for long term use.. you should probably talk to your doctor and see what he has to say.
