I believe it means to allow something to have meaning for the present, as opposed to the past, when it was done. This is an obscure saying at best, but thats about the gist of it. Sometimes things happen in the past, which dont appear to have a reason, so, let it have meaning in the present, instead of the past. Hope this helps

are you sure its not "let it be something for now"? instead of not letting "it" be anything at all. just let "it" be "something" get it?
