I think it helps us to consolidate our own ideas, particularly around ambiguous subjects as some areas of mental health can be viewed as.
I think also it can be rewarding to feel able to help someone else. It can make you feel a little better inside your own skin to think that at the end of another computer is a person you may have just helped.
And I think also, for some of us, it can be a haven away from the stresses and troubles in our everyday lives. An avoidance mechanism for some, perhaps. Or maybe just a way to step out of your own little worries for a while and feel useful.
I do respect the opinions of the people on here, and I am sure many would say the same. I know that there are some who like to deliberately give argumentative answers, but even those normally have some point they wish to make.

It usually is for me. Once in awhile though I do get frustrated, so that's when I back off and go do something else. I like to read the questions & choose the ones I want to respond to. I don't go very fast & I'm rarely the first responder, but that doesn't stop me because if I determine to answer, I'll keep typing until I'm done.

I like the idea of a place to interact & ask questions in a fun atmosphere, and this seems to be it for me.

It's also easier to talk to strangers sometimes, and of course it's good to respect their opinions. They very well might be the illumination you need to view your own problem, or whatever, in a new perspective that you might have missed on your own.

I am at work and very board this makes the time go by. It makes me feel good also because i see other people have problems also. I try to respect everyones opinions unless the person is being a jerk and asking inappropriate questions.

It feels good to find a problem one can help with or has an answer for. I would say that it can be addicting, so I designate the time I spend on Yahoo answers. It is great when yours is chosen for the best answer, then you know you have been of some help

The realisation comes from the fact that I can see the abject despair and suicidal tendencies of most of people who frequent this forum. It makes me understand that my life is so much better than the one they have. I take much pleasure and even glee in this fact.
