Usually the pain can be medicated and just keeping the mouth clean and rinsing with water often is the most important.. actually once the tooth is out it may hurt less than before. usually Tylenol or ibuprofen is enough for the pain. I've had several teeth pulled including wisdom and one day is all I was ever down for...although we all love tea and sympathy when we have unpleasant medical things done.and if it paid time off take the days. the bleeding should stop within a few hours and once you take the packing out stick to soft things like a milkshake would be very good for the sore gums. the better you care for the mouth the less the pain.

I had 6 teeth extracted and had a little over a week off because some of my wisdom teeth were impacted and had to have them cut out, the ones that were just pulled only take about a day or two to heal, so i would say if it is only for one tooth, take a day off, but if it is a difficult tooth with problems then take two days off.

The pain will pretty nearly be over after they take it out (I've had two wisdom teeth and one regular molar out). I never took more than a day. How is he normally about recovering from things like this? Is his job very physical? If he does a lot on the phone or interacting with people verbally, he may want to take the weekend.

You don't really get a day off for that. However, if you can not ease the pain by pain killers, then you should take a day off, not more because people are not stupid, you know.
Sometimes, just a simple Tylenol extra strenght will ease the pain

You really shouldn't have to take much time off for that...unless it's wisdom teeth. Just take the rest of that day (no sense in working TOO hard) since your face will be numb for a few hours.

painkillers will help get rid of pain. no need to skip work if there is no fever.
im not sure if how true this is... but he should avoid carrying heavy stuff or doing strenious activity for at least a day after tooth has been taken out.

just go back to work after it's done. There is no need for days off for a tooth being pulled. In the army, I seen guys go to the dentist, come back with a mouth full of gauze and go back to training emidiately.

Tell him he can't weasel out of work, you don't need anytime off for just 1 tooth. Maybe if it was all 4 wisdom teeth, maybe, but for one tooth, tell him to suck it up and be a MAN about it.

It's always better to plan for the worst. When I had my wisdom teeth pulled, I slept for a day and a half just from the laughing gas and the codine-like pills they gave me afterwards. I would suggest asking for 2 days off and, if he feels better, he can always go in on the second day. If not, he has no worries and can stay home to eat cold applesauce :) Good luck to you!
