HIIT (High intensity interval training)

Say you want to jog for 10 min. Start at a very light and slow pace (even a brisk walk if need be) for say a minute. After the minutes up go as fast as you can for 15 seconds (30 if you're feeling up to it) then back to the slow pace (don't stop, use the slower pace to catch your breath and get ready for the next fast interval) Keep doing this extending the total time ran and increasing the fast interval times. I'd also suggest stretching before and after the run. The interval times are configurable to YOU, so don't be afraid to up the jog/slow times a little, just be sure that you're pushing yourself and everything will fall into place.

Just as an example I started out at 1 min jog 30 sec sprint for a total of 10 minutes. I'm now up to 28 minutes total interval time, with 1 min slow and 45 seconds fast. I've seen a huge difference in energy levels.

Good luck :)

Follow the advice posted above and make sure you are breathing when you run. Many times people have a tendency to hold their breath when they exercise, your body needs the oxygen to provide energy to fuel your run. If you need help with breathing, try taking up pilates or yoga to learn proper breath techniques. It worked for me, since taking pilates it's much easier to do high intensity exercise since I know proper breath techniques.

Start out gradually. Remember to breathe in through the nose and out the mouth. You don't want to be sucking in air through the mouth. Once you feel like you can't control your breathing slow the pace down and pick it back up once you have recovered.

You have to build up endurance. Keep running and you'll soon be able to run a little further with time.
