I'm gonna have to say 'concept' since I am an atheist. I guess I mean the standard, American concept of god...

It would be the greatest acheivement since the wheel.
And I for one believe that it will happen. Perhaps not in my lifetime but hopefully during the life of my grandchildren.
Education and intelligence are the key.
The higher the education (and by that I mean REAL education, not store-bought diploma's that so many creationist "scientists" are so fond of) and the higher the intelligence, the less the tolerance for such childish nonsense.

This is an interesting question. I would have no problems with removing the popular concept of god from humanity...I actually think it would move people towards greater altruism coupled with accountability for themselves and their families instead of constantly using the "get out of jail free" card (religion).

People don't take pressing global issues seriously because they subconsciously think that some mystical being is going to take care of it all. Not gonna' happen.

Religion in the west has been perverted beyond belief. None of the heavily "bible based" religions in the US have spoken out against the war, they seem to find no problem with unbridled capitalism and a society whose current generation is materialistic like no other. It's a very sickening sight to see, once you take the time to step back and observe.

Okay -- here's the interesting thing.

Most christians believe that people who genuinely never heard of Jesus, or God, etc... are therefore not culpable for their sins, and that these people are potentially eligable for heaven.

Priest: You must accept Jesus and confesss your sins.
Inuit: If I did not know, would I still go to hell?
Priest: No, not if you did not know.
Inuit: Then... why... did you tell me?

The best thing Christians could do is to bury every and all religions then EVERYONE will be ignorant of their God and thus, be eligable for heaven.

Seems Christianity better serves humanity in NOT existing than in existing.

Remove the idea of a personal God-a deity- and replace it with the concept of God as the cosmic consciousness that embodies everything within the universe.

Ok, I thought about doing that but decided it would be nearly impossible to change the minds of all his followers. I'm going after the substance.

P.S. This proves one of two things, either I'm not the only crazy one here, or I am, in fact, sane. Either way I'm happy!

what will be the point, we will just leave humanity ponder, about the misteries of the universe to which we will never find answers to. We have a lot of theories that have been proven facts, but still yet has to be proven wrong. We just will spend years trying to understand certain phenomeneons of nature and still be wrong. And we will just keep wondering why for the rest our lives. Do you want everyone to believe that the universe is our God, The universe is only matter and energy. Then let matter and energy be your God. I'm alright thanks.

You mean the big fat Santa in the sky that is supposed to bestow "prayer presents" on the faithful.

I'm with you. I think we need to stop asking for crap all the time and start caring about other people.

It would be great, but as someone already said - it won't happen quickly, it'll will take time.

Weak-minded people will want to hold on to the idea - they're too afraid to make their own decisions, etc.

Depends on what you mean by "the popular concept of".
God made humanity, it is impossible to remove Him from it.

NO! I do not, we as children of God are to pass along to every generation the good news of Jesus. We as people of Faith, live that way,(and yes (sometimes fail). It seems like everwhere, people are trying to dis-credit God,We want to take his mane off our currency, out of the schools, they tried to take the Mt. Soledad Cross down. What happened to "God Bless America"
