I used to frequent a store for a good number of things. I spent roughly $100 a month there. One day I was there the cashier was berating an older gentleman for no reason. He couldn't hear very well and he was patient, but she wasn't. She was making him nervous by her impatience. I never went back to that store because of that. That was about 8 years ago. Now at $100/month for eight years, that's close to $10,000 that store has lost of my business because of one rude employee.

For those kind of cases, don't you think more companies would put more care into their customer services. I see employees being rude places I go, and some places managers just don't care!

Same with a coffee club this place by us had. I had one of those 'buy six get one free' coffee cards and filled it up. Most of the time I chose to get my coffee there because of that offer. Next time I went with my full card they said they no longer take them. For a $1.50 cup of coffee, they lost my business too

Some places still do....I had to return some things to the Bed Bath and Beyond store in Sarasota, Florida.......I'd lost the packing......one box was torn up and they still took the return and were EXTREMELY nice about it.
I told them I had something else I needed to return but I didn't have the box or packing and they INSISTED that I bring it back to them and they'd give me my money back....and they DID.

The sales help in that store and the managers were amazingly helpful, polite and even friendly and courteous. They went out of their way twice more besides these instances. I make it a point to shop there now.

I realize that that particular store is not the norm but thats what makes it so great to shop there.
I've had HORRIBLE experiences in other places and I make it a point to "vote with my wallet". Helpfulness, politeness, willingness to assist you in an exchange or a refund are worth their weight in gold to me.....and I will NEVER again spend my money in places that don't care about their customers or are rude to them. I hate rude sales people.

As far as your experience with the coffee card......the people in Bed Bath and Beyond told me they will honor any competitors cupons ....ecen if EXPIRED! I thought I entered another galaxy....like the Bizarro World from Seinfeld...LOL!

Sorry if I sound like I'm a shill for BBB......but I'm not. Last week was the first time i ever shopped in one.....but it sure won't be the last time.
I don't know if all BBB stores are like that but I LOVE it!

....and no....I don't work there and don't even know anyone who works there.

well....Like they say in the Bizarro World as they leave......"Hello"!

I agree with the one comment about the type of people they hire. I've been on both sides - I've worked retail.

When I graduated from high school I went to work at a department store. One day at work they just told me I had to work in the hardware department. I do not know the first thing about hardware even to this day, but I was supposed to be able to help customers. The managers and my supervisors did not care that I did not know anything about my department, they just needed to fill a space over there. I did that for a whopping $4.60 an hour (this was 10 years ago.)

It is true, people work there for money, usually because they have to. Period. Most do not care about the customer. Sad to say, but my 3 1/2 years at the store really got me to dislike a lot of people! Customers were constantly rude and one woman even screamed at me because the dollar I returned to her in change was ripped. (It just happened to be the first dollar in my drawer.) I would return kindness if it was offered, but I didn't go out of my way to be nice to the customer, mostly because I was young, and yeah, they didn't pay me enough to deal with a lot of the customers.

I think better training and better wages are required. Then people may start to care about their job.

Well, I have a list, but not the time to type it! PC World, Tesco, their 'network' doesn't support all the funtions on your mobile, - they don't tell you that! nevertheless I did get my money back, Bathstore make sure your boxes contain a pair of radiator valves! Whilst we are on the subject, let me praise the staff and management at my local Home Bargains! they are wonderful, I use 2 walking sticks or scooter, they help me shop, just like having a personal shopper! and take my shopping to the car and load it in the boot - shame I can't bring them home to unload it! Lol! btw, just for scooter loathers, I was one myself, before I needed one, they don't have brakes! I always wondered why people got so out of control on them! I apologise in advance for any near misses - whoops, sorry!!

It honestly depends on where you go and how well they pay their employees. If you go to a store like Wal-Mart where the people make barely more than minimum wage, the store isn't getting the cream of the crop when it comes to the people that work there. Most of them tend to be rude and ignorant. They don't want to be there, they just need a job and they're quite miserable because of it. Now if you go to a store like Nordstrom where many of the employees work on commission, they are absolutely wonderfult to deal with.
