Tropical rain forests do not allow the sunlight to penetrate to the ground. The plants shield the soil from increasing temperatures.

The plants also remove the rain from thr soil and through transpiration, release water into the atmosphere.

So the answer is it helps to control the temperature and humidity.

Agreeing with Richard, I would like to add that forests prevent from erosion of earth, increase rain in the area and help mankind by converting Carbon Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide gases into oxygen and other harmful emissions from industries are subsided, to minimize threats to ecology of that region.
