Also, what side were they on: Allies or Axis?
Also, are they still alive?
Ex:
One of my grandfathers was the rear gunner of a TBF Avenger, the other was a flak gunner on a troopship. Both Allies, both deceased.

My grandfathers both served in World War I - one on the Battle of the Somme when he was 16 (he lied about his age to get into the army) and the other in the Royal Navy operating torpedo boats and hunting German submarines and merchant raiders.

During WWII one grandfather served in the Home Guard and as a Fire Watcher during the Blitz in 1940 and the other continued his sea-going career in the Merchant Navy, making numerous Atlantic crossings in the convoys during the Battle of the Atlantic.

Both Allies, both now long dead

My uncle flew Corsair fighters with the Fleet Air Arm

My grandfather was an MP. Now my husband's father was a Prisoner of War that fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Germany. He was captured by the Germans, the day after Christmas in 1944 and was rescued about 6 months later. I work for a local Veterans Services Office in North Carolina, so I hear a lot of war stories!! Both my grandfather and my husband's father were Allies, of course. I never met my father-in-law. He died before I met his son in 1990. I would loved to have heard some of his stories. I have met people who were actually at Pearl Harbor the day it was bombed. My grandfather died in 1993. Both were in the Army.

My father was a safety man on a 5 inch gun on a destroyer in the navy. He served in the Atlantic and the Pacific. He was in the water three times and was decorated. He went in in 1937 and took his 30. He worked for the police force after that till he retired at 65. He lived another 7 years after that. My older step brother was killed at Chosin in Korea as a Marine with The Old Breed. I was a medic with the Army. I have three grown daughters. My oldest Grandson is 17 and trying to decide between the Army and the Marines. My family has been in every war this country ever had. "They draft the white trash first around here anyway".

I don't know exactly. My dad's father served in WWII on the US side...that's all I know. My other grandfather was too young for WWII, but served in the army during the Korean War. He fought in the Battle of Inchon. He never talked about it until I married an army man. My dad's father died in '79, my other grandpa is still alive.
