I don't want a dictionary definition I'd like to know what you understand the word to mean.

An arrogant person is somebody who seems to look down on others. They think they are wiser and more intelligent so have not much time for lesser being's opinions. It can be deceptive; people with low self-esteem often appear to be arrogant to strangers when in fact they are just shy and don't have the confidence to reply well; and people with high esteem appear arrogant because they are over-confident and reply too well ... but deep down, perhaps neither are arrogant.
It always has a negative connotation though.

An air of superiority, with no substance. I do think arrogance is a very misused word. People think I'm arrogant just because I choose to not speak to 'certain' people. I think maybe they get it mixed up with being selective!

Someone with such tenacity and drive towards a desired goal or perhaps life in general, that they will dismiss another point of view without reasonable consideration....
ie, "I'm right and don't care what anyone else has to say"
Lawyers are generally fairly arrogant IMHO ;o)

Someone who thinks they are god's gift to the world and that nobody should have any other opinion except their's and that they are the end all and be all about everything and everyone.
They generally don't know what they're talking about 99.99 per cent of the time.

When I think of arrogant, I think of Tom Cruise. Now he is arrogant. He's ego has gone completely to his head. And it's costing him movies, cause no one wants to work with him. I heard that they are talking to Brad Pitt about doing Tom's Mission Impossible sequal. Now ain't that some Sh * t. But yeah, he is who I think of. He's still hot though. lol

Somebody who looks down at others, and shows in their words/behaviour that they know how superior they are to everybody else for whatever reason they're having themselves, is behaving in an arrogant manner.

I understand it to mean that someone is too confident of themself, they believe they are superior to others and don't value other's opinions highly.
