My question is what should I do? His parents are the biggest pot heads I know. I talked to him about it but what could I say. He knows that his parents smoke and I guess he thinks that makes it ok for him to do it too. He also knows that I did my fair share of bad things when I was a teenager, but I was 17 not 14.

Not much you can do in this case.
I know you want to help but hes got to learn on his own ...you know this.
You could be the snitch and tell his parents ....but since they smoke dont expect much to come of it. You could tell your parents in which case he could be removed from the home and placed in foster or group care. Do you want that?
Would that help him?
I say keep talking WITH him not to him or at him he'll just get resentful towards you.
You can try to guide him gently. If you are forceful he'll just get worse classic ....dont do something and someone does it just to be spiteful.

You cannot tell a child, "Do as I say, not as I do." It just doesnt work. His parents have set an example for him, be it a really bad one. Im guessing he has already heard about the dangers of drugs but figures if his parents think its ok than he does too. I dont think there is much you can do at this point but to point out that as parents, we all make mistakes and he doesnt have to make the same ones.
Good luck with this one.

Well you need to let him know the the consequences of smoking pot!
You need to ask him this one question?
When you grow up , do you want your children to go around and say their parents are pot heads! Just think about that!!

First, be sure his parents know that he smokes. They may be freaked out he smokes or not, but they need to know.

Then explain to him from your experience pot is the biggest waste of time in the world etc.

Your are fighting a BAD parental influence.

Good luck.

Why don't you talk to your own parents about it. Maybe you can take him out of that enviromet and get him started down a new path, while you still have time. If he stays with his parents nothing will change, unitl it adversely affect him in a bad way, then hell realize. Dont wait for that to happen. You care or you wouldnt have asked the ?

tell him how it's cooler to die in a crash accident when you're sober and clean. it's a misleading statement, but it should work.

tell him how those who smoke are cowards because they can't do cool/stupid stuff when they're clean, they don't have the guts so they smoke.

or tell him he can smoke as long as he doesn't do it too often. Maybe three times a year, who knows. You could tell him grown ups smoke too but the trick is not doing it too often so that your body has time to recover. I know any smoking is bad, and I would never EVER smoke or do anything like that, but trust me, it's better to have a cousin that smokes three times a year than no cousin at all.

If all else fails, do him a favor and drag his sorry butt into a rehab center.

I hope my answer somehow helped!!

don't go to his parents. Tell an adult who you trust or talk to one of his teachers. Obviously the parents won't do anything because that would mean that they would have to give up pot too. But do SOMETHING before he starts going down the wrong road in life and screws himself out of a happy life. Good luck and God bless!!

I started smoking pot when I was in 6th grade, right after I found out my parents were potheads, I thought it was okay for me too. My parents didn't even care, but my friends snapped me out of it, it made me feel better that someone cared, so let him know you care and try to help him.

yeah he is young. But at least its not something worse than pot with all the crap out there these days. I don't know if your cousin is mature enough to know that pot is pot and that anything else is real bad, then I wouldn't worry about it. Teenagers experiment with alcohol and pot, but anything else I would tell his parents.

You can't force him to stop. He's going to do it if he wants too and he will stop when he wants to. Just tell him that if he is oging to do it that he needs to be safe and stay at home so he doesn't get hurt. You could try showing him how weed affects your brain. I wish that I had known because it made me loose my memory and I didn't reach my potential becuase I used drugs. I dropped out of high school and then dropped out of college. I'm going back to college now and getting straight A's but it takes time for you to realize the mistakes that drugs can cause.
