a shame, ain't it? There really isn't anything to discuss, other than we are so blessed here in Amerca that we as a country are massively overweight. And a huge percentage of people get that way because their "eating disorder" is simply 'lack of self control'. We eat too much, and we eat the wrong stuff. Our diets are improper, we don't exercise, and viola, we get fat. The disorders aren't "bulemia" and "anorexia". It's simply poor self control.

The US has probably the most studies on anything, weight included.

I am 54 years old, 5'10" and 205 and have a 36" waist and feel and look pretty good, but by standards I have seen on the net, I am officially OBESE. I don't think so.

American restaurants are a little more expensive than Canadian restaurants, when you factor in the exchange rate, but the portion size in the US is usually much larger. Fast food in the US is cheaper than fast food almost anywhere on Earth.

Alot of labour intensive jobs in the US were lost to overseas workers, so people just don't do as much as before physically.

Too much food, too little physical work, the remote control on the TV...it all adds up.

The US also has some of the hottest looking babes anywhere. There are LIES, Truths and then STATISTICS

Don't fret.

The reason we have so many eating disorders and I'll also add depression into this is...

We have a media driven culture where thin is in. Rarely do you see fat people on TV shows, except for middle age or older man, because it's acceptable for them for whatever reason.

We also have entirely too much time on our hands to mope and think over this stuff. Do you think our great great grandfathers and great great grandmothers had time to worry over this stuff when they were young? Hell no! They had to work all the time to keep a roof over their head and food on the table, and the house in order. They didn't have time to obsess about their self-image or whether they were depressed or not.

Of course, it doesn't help that we all sit down and watch so much TV every day, instead of being active.

This is a Q&A board, not a discussion board. Besides which, I don't think you understand the meaning of irony. It would be ironic if Ethiopia, one of the poorest nations in the world, had a problem with overweight populace. America's problem is simply an abundance of fast-food choices. If you live alone, or both spouses work, who has time to cook? But to run down to McDonalds and grab a burger is something that takes little time.

You have a great valid point. How is that possible that we have the fattest and the skinniest (willingly) people in the world? Interesting.

Irony: putting"support our troops" bumper magnets on cars, the same cars that pay terrorists of all lands by buying oil.

I blame it on the media and the lack of parental influence.
