Think of the most disgusting thing you can think of...say for example how nasty the dead cells and detritus are under your nails. Use aversion therapy.

One thing you can do is keep in mind how many dirty things you touch throughout the day. How many germs you're putting into your mouth.

Second thing, try putting on some artificial nails and keeping them painted and looking nice. I'm not sure your original nails will grow under the fake ones, but it's worth a try. Perhaps you'll get lots of compliments on your pretty fake ones that you'll decide to let your own nails grow and be pretty.

I used to use some kind of anti nail biting stuff, and i have also found that if you paint your nails with nail varnish, it stops you biting them. Well, that works for me!

To give yourself a head start cover each finger tip with a plaster for a couple of weeks. When the plaster is dirty just replace it. When you see your hands after that time, hopefully that'll give you some encouragement to continue.

Good Luck!!! And remember chewed up nails look so ugly!!!

what i did was to tell all of my friends that if they saw me with my fingers in my mouth to slap my hand away and to yell at me. And i put on some really nasty tasting polish. It worked and today i have long nice nails.

After you get a bit of an edge on your nails, to help make them stronger, you should put polish on the top side and underneath.

I used an extremely fine grit nail file to make the edges so smooth that my teeth couldn't catch any snags and just kept filing them (it makes them stronger too). Keep them short for a while until they're stronger because they bend easy. Wearing nail polish helped too. Good luck!!!

Just do it. I've bitten my nails for 25 years and finally have....0.5 cm of growth on the ends. I just stopped. Always have a nailfile handy to stop those tempting bitty edges.

I think you can get some cream to put on your nails that tastes horrible so you stop biting them... do that for a while until the urge to do it stops...
