Or is that a bit too forward? I suppose anyone who really wants to be contacted by an old school friend would be on there?

I wouldn't assume that; I never heard of Friends Reunited until just now. I've had two old friends contact me this year and I was very happy to hear fro both of them. Just send a nice message and see what happens.

I would say to her that you are trying to reach her sister and ask her to pass on your e-mail address (and or mobile no.) and to get in touch. If her sister wants to be contacted by you she'll surely respond!

Your friend may not have access to the internet (unusaul these days I know). I don't think her sister would mind forwarding your details and if you get a response, all the better.

Funnily enough, I have just been looking on this site. Contact this girl, you have nothing to lose, you never know, she might think of you a lot too!

Why not! What's the harm? She may be on a different site or just not bothered yet.
