reminder that everything is holy and reverent. the only con is that it leads people to believe that everything and every experience out of church is "normal" and not deserving of awe and reverence

Most people who go to church regularly, benefit from belonging to a community. They bond with other people who share their beliefs and support each other through life. People go to church to receive reminders and encouragement to live their lives with purpose and joy. They go to meditate and be in the presence of divinity.
The con of going to church is boredom. If you space out during the sermon, because the "leader" does not hold your interest, you should find another church. The other con is that it's right in the middle of the first half of the day, so the whole half of a day gets "wasted" just for 1hr 45min of church.

I go to church to be strengthen in my faith by hearing the Word and partaking of the Lord's Supper. It is much easier to be a Christian when you have weekly fellowship with other believers. I feel closer to God when I go.
As for cons... I can't think of any really that stack up to the above benefits. I guess I have to go to bed Saturday night so I can wake up refreshed. But how does that compare?

One of the purposes of the Church is to perfect the members. The Church does not serve as a place for perfect people to gather to say perfect things or have perfect thoughts. Rather, it serves as a place for imperfect people to gather and provide encouragement, support, and service to each other.
We go to church to learn to live the commandment He has given us; to love God with all our might, mind, and strength. Second to that we go to church to learn to love our neighbor as ourselves.
Moreover, the church that I attend has no paid ministry. People pay their tithing secretly to the bishopric.

The Mass (Catholic Church) mirrors the eternal Liturgy in Heaven. It is best understood from Revelation.
In short, when we are at Mass, we are on earth participating in the Heavenly Liturgy. We actually get to participate in Heaven on Earth!

to gather with others who have a similar belief system to honor, worship, adore and learn about GOD. to know there are others of like mind who are there to support you along with you supporting them by gaining wisdom and knowledge.
the cons are you need to get up in the morning not sleeping in and give up television, reading, etc. which you want to do until you get back home. you have to give up a couple of hours each week.

I have to wonder. The same people who insist the loudest that the Bible must be taught also insist just as hard that it's literal and straight-forward. So which one is it? Literal and straight-forward means you can just read it. Why would you need a shamen to serve it up in doses?
