It could fry your hair(happened to me), only 1nce tho. You can get split ends from them, alot. If you are going to get one I recommend getting Loreal hot straight, its a pink bottle like $5 for it, it protects your hair from damaging.

I love my flat iron. I have never burned my hair or my body with a flat iron. I use a Hai.
Now, I continually burn my ear or arm with the curling iron. I use a large barrel curling iron with a marcel grip. The tip of the curling iron is rounded and very hot.
I do not use a thermal spray as it leaves my hair feeling stiff and unnatural. Sometimes, I will spray a light leave in on my hair, if it feels dry. BUT usually, I will apply a light leave in at night to nourish the strands and ends. This seems to work best.
I try not to straighten my own hair. I prefer the work of my stylist, but at least once a month, I must do it.

Okay, here is the story of straightening irons. In the old days, they made these out of metal and it was apparent that when a hot metal touched the hair, the hair would burn and done with. Nowadays, the irons are made of ceramic and the element that really dries the hair and shapes it is Ion. That said, your hair is better off using a ceramic iron. Amongst all the ceramic irons that I have used, I prefer Chi. I also recommend that you dry your hair completely with a blow dryer before you start using the iron. Also, when your hair is wet, apply a little bit of leave-in conditioner so the process gets easier. Good Luck_

You can, as I have, scorch your hair or burn your hair. That is really the only down side to using a straightening iron.
The best thing to do is to get an electric straight. iron that has a thermostat control on instead of using the kind you put on the stove. That way you can adjust the heat to your hair type.
Secondly, no constant heat is good for your hair. So if you have to press it out do it once after you've washed and cond. If it needs straightening btw. washes. use a flat iron.

First of all, get one with ceramic plates. The cheap ones with the metal plates do not work and are REALLY bad for your hair.
Make sure you use the heat defense spray before you start ironing your hair otherwise it will burn your hair faster. Also, part your hair and do it in sections that way your avoiding going over the same places more than once. If you don't have a good one, also when it gets humid your hair starts to get frizzy and stuff and it really sucks. And also always be careful cause it REALLY hurts when you burn yourself specially on the ear lobe. I've gotten myself burnt there a couple of times and it hurts for days.
Really....I believe straightners are no matter what bad for you hair...if there is any way you can style your hair with the blow dryer then do it...but if you're like me and can't then the straightner is wonderful...just remember to REALLY hydrate your hair as the straightner dries it out.

I've never really had a bad experience with my flat iron. Occasionally I accidentally touch the hot pads, but it's never burned me or anything. I straighten my hair nearly every day and my hair is just as health as always.

I use my flat iron often and have never had a problem. All you have to remember is after blow drying apply bio silk or a spray oil then section hair and gently slide the iron on each section. Best flat iron in my opionion is Chi.. I love it!
Hope this helps..

Really the only complaint i have about my starightening iron is that it leaves my hair feeling like horse hair. I can't figure out why it does that. The only way i can straighten my hair and leave it soft feeling and healthy looking is by using my fat curling iron. It takes longer, but it's better for my hair.

Sometimes they can burn your hair, and they do tend to cause more split ends than normal. But, if you do some research and get a good one they don't usually cause very many problems! I have had the same one for about a year now and have had no problems!!

My daughter has a habit of leaving them on the floor when they are hot and has scorched the carpet in many places. You can buy special mats to put them on to stop this-too late for us. Leaving hot irons on stuff could also catch fire to something.
