"Work out your own salvation. Do not depend on others"

Oh, this one's going to get ugly... but I truely seek your opinions, those of you who disagree, please logically state why...

Whynotaskdon: Buddhist "salvation" is a subtractive process, you remove your desires and become free of suffering, you don't pull anything up, you chisel it down.

Peace, Man: I said logically, you have no logical proof whatsoever for what you just said... why should I take your word and believe that your religion is true and all others are false? Buddhism offers me a logical solution, not blind faith.

very good quote
and even though i say i am spiritualist .. i have my own unique thoughts ... no one in my opinion has the same religious thoughts as another
so not even those in the same religious sect are thinking the same as the person sitting next to them
i have seen varied answers on here way too much to convince me of that
we should all have our own individual paths through life ... and those paths i feel lead to the same place

No in the initial stages this is not accepted.
The example is given that if you are diseases, its best to approach a Proper Doctor.
In Initial stages, self treatment would be very difficult. In majority of the cases it would fail and the sickness may increase.
In Bhagavad Gita hence it is recommended
“Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized souls can impart knowledge unto you because they have seen the truth.” (BG 4.34)

After you have thus obtained the medicine of sickness and preventive measures to never fall ill again, you can then walk your way alone not depending on others.
As is further explained in Bhagavad Gita
“Having obtained real knowledge from a self-realized soul, you will never fall again into such illusion, for by this knowledge you will see that all living beings are but part of the Supreme, or, in other words, that they are Mine.” (BG 4.35) “Even if you are considered to be the most sinful of all sinners, when you are situated in the boat of transcendental knowledge you will be able to cross over the ocean of miseries.” (BG 4.36)

I agree whole heartedly. It's kinda like Paul the Apostate said, "Work out your own salvation, with Fear and Trembling." Too bad Xians don't allow others to do as their founder instructed.

don't see how anyone could disagree even if they are Christians. all Buddha is saying is" work out your own salvation. do not depend on others." depends upon how one interprets this. my personal interpretation is what Buddha is saying is each individual person needs to work salvation out for themselves and that the individual should not rely on other individuals to do it for them. Buddha is not saying for the individual to perform his own salvation.

You are the only one that can save "you". That is a very good thing to live by. This does not necessarily have to have any religious connotations. People of any belief system should integrate this in their lives.

seek jesus, he the only 1 that promise to be your friend, guide, brother & God & Lord to give yourself to him & he will stand in proxy for you to obtain your salvation from GOd his father.

he is GOd's son manifested in human form, go thru all human trails & expereinces & come out no sin & victorious even against death so that He can truly sympathy with us & qualify to led us to GOd as a forerunner for us to emulate.
