"democracy is better than what you have, you can make your own decisions.... so BE A DEMOCRACY OR ELSE!"

Democracy cannot be imposed from outside a state. It has never worked. All democracies begin with a revolution or civil war. The American and French revolutions are proof of this. In UK [England] we had a series of civil wars, culminating in the English Civil war starting in 1644. Although this failed to lead to a pure democracy, much was gained from it, including the supremacy of the House of Commons. The monarchs powers were seriously curtailed from that time on. Puritans of the English Civil war period, who later found themselves in the then American Colonies, continued their struggle for freedom, liberty and democracy. Starting in c1776 many Americans rose up against the King of England, Geo.III and took matters to an ultimate victory, creating for the first time since the Roman Republic, a real and meaningful democracy. The French followed suit but their bloody terror was disliked by many Americans who did not support the French revolution.
In the modern age, the west storming into other countries, claiming they are going to bring democracy to the people thereof, is a ruse. The real reason behind the present socalled war on terror, is to ensure a leading position in the world for the USA. Geo W Bvsh knows that the US will soon lose out to both China and India, since both these countries are surging ahead. India, already a democracy, the world's largest, will probably continue down the same road. Already in China, the people are being given ever more freedom. This will grow, but it is not to say that China will give up communism in favour of what we in the west think of as a democracy.

The sad truth is democracy can only exist in a country when it HAS been imposed. Even in England, it didn't exist until King John was forced to sign Magna Carta or die. (The original version of "I'm gonna make you an offer you can't refuse).
Tyrant Monarchs, and Dicators don't generously give democracy to the people until they are forced to.
Iraq is being offered democracy. A new government chosen by its people will make the decisions, and if they chose to abandon democracy later, that will be their decision.
This raises a question (which I will post) : Has any country ever abandoned democracy after it has obtained it?

You don't "impose" Democracy. Why not ask the people of Hallabjah (site of Saddam Husseins' nerve gas attack) if they were happy "running their own affairs"? Or the women of Afghanistan? Don't blame the West for everything. I am no fan of Blair or Bush, and am skeptical for their reasons for getting involved in Iraq - but Afghanistan? I'm all for it.

Apparently by force of arms.
War of aggression is a GIANT ARMED ROBBERY.
This one went awry.
note: If U.S.A was a person it would be the brother in the Bob Dylan song ..Maggies Farm.
".....Well, he hands you a nickel,
He hands you a dime,
He asks you with a grin
If you're havin' a good time,
Then he fines you every time you slam the door.
I ain't gonna work for Maggie's brother no more."
