Can I get one if I am just visiting, does it make sense to do so? I will probably visit on a fairly regular basis. I just got annoyed w sorting through money for the subway and whatnot. I know about the 24 hour subway pass already.

Yes its worth getting, almost all forms of public transportation accepts it (except taxis). you can use it in certain convenient stores such as 7-11, i think star bucks has started to accept it as well lol....the max amount u can store in the card is HK$1000.
u can sell the card back at the KCR or MTR stations if you want and get your deposit back.

Its so much easier to have this card with you at all times, saves the hassle of carrying huge amounts of coins around

Yes, it does make sense. I have one someplace from my visit in 2004 and it does not expire. I could be wrong about that. They expanded use to be like a debit card. Can be used other places than subway. see source.

Have fun in HKG
