I was planning a trip to Thailand for a few weeks in June/July 2007. We were going to fly into Bangkok and travel immediately south to the beaches and into Malaysia, then back up to Bangkok for a day and fly home. With everything going on over there, I'm not quite sure what to do. Trying to get info on how this will affect me as a tourist, if I should still buy tickets, or if I should fly through somewhere else. Any suggestions?!?!

It is still along way to go, 9 months to be exact before June –07.So its rather too premature to predict the political climate then. Anytime could happen along the way. Bangkok appears too be calm at the moment, with ordinary folks going about daily routine as usual. But the same cannot be said in the south. Muslim separatists are still conducting their insurgency attacks in Southern Thailand on a frequent basis .With no solution in sight in the foreseeable future ,its better to stay away from Southern Thailand especially in the province of Yala, Pattani,Narathiwat and even Songkla. So if you want to go to Malaysia from Bangkok its much safer to fly rather by going on land deep into Southern Thailand crossing into the Malaysian . I suggest you should defer your tickets bookings until the last few weeks of your planned departure mindful of any latest political developments in Thailand. Pull back your horses , don't jump the gun yet.

That's months away. Buy your tickets and get refundable ones and then get travel insurance that would cover acts of terrorism in case the situation gets worse and you'd need to cancel your trip.

You just need to use common sense when travelling - even if there are no political problems or terrorism issues.

I went to Egypt a less than a month after 9/11 and had a great time and no trouble whatsoever.

Buy the tickets. The coup is such a non-issue here. Everything is fine, the people are happy. By June 07 it'll all be ancient history.

bypass and plan. the militia coup become a non-journey in thailand. the government become very corrupt so interior of sight police and government have been to no longer be depended on. So, with the militia and national Police over finding each thing you would be safer. The Thai understand that tourism is very significant to their financial equipment. My female buddy there pronounced she had no longer seen the militia on the streets and she or he works close to between the busiest intersections in Bangkok at Rama IX and Ratchapisek street.

Personally I would not worry about it. Tourism is very important to Thailand. A lot could happen before then. Make sure you show respect to the King and you should not have any problem.

As a tourist, you will not be affected in any way by the coup.
Everything is very peaceful, and all the Thai people are very happy about the situation.

Yes, book your tickets, and have a great holiday.
