I was planning a trip to Thailand for a few weeks in June/July 2007. We were going to fly into Bangkok and travel immediately south to the beaches and into Malaysia, then back up to Bangkok for a day and fly home. With everything going on over there, I'm not quite sure what to do. Trying to get info on how this will affect me as a tourist, if I should still buy tickets, or if I should fly through somewhere else. Any suggestions?!?!

Go and plan. The military coup was a non-event in thailand. The government was very corrupt so local police and government were not to be trusted. So, with the military and National Police over looking everything you should be safer. The Thai realize that tourism is very important to their economy. My girlfriend there said she had not seen the military on the streets and she works near one of the busiest intersections in Bangkok at Rama IX and Ratchapisek Road.

The coup does not seem to be any problem but the area that you mention travelling through, the three southern provinces of Thailand is a perpetual trouble spot and I would not travel there myself unless you had a specific reason.. You might want to fly from say, Phuket to Penang and then travel from there - - but otherwise, all here remains calm - - of course, you have plenty of time to monitor the situation - - good luck - come and enjoy like the rest of us

it remains alongside thank you to bypass, 9 months to be right in the previous June –07.So its fairly too untimely to predict the political climate then. every time could take place alongside the way. Bangkok looks too be calm on the 2nd, with trouble-free individuals going approximately each and daily habitual as typical. however the comparable won't be able to be pronounced interior the south. Muslim separatists are nonetheless engaging of their insurgency assaults in Southern Thailand on a prevalent foundation .with out answer in sight interior the foreseeable destiny ,its better to stay remote from Southern Thailand somewhat interior the province of Yala, Pattani,Narathiwat or perhaps Songkla. So in case you want to bypass to Malaysia from Bangkok its lots safer to fly fairly by ability of occurring land deep into Southern Thailand crossing into the Malaysian . I propose you may defer your tickets bookings till the previous few weeks of your planned departure attentive to any recent political advancements in Thailand. Pull back your horses , do no longer leap the gun yet.
