Christianity has a concept of the return of the messiah and in Christianity that would be Jesus. Could some Muslim give me a brief overview of orthodox Islamic teaching on this matter as I believe that Muslims believe there will be a final prophet of a like

Muslims believe that the final prophet was Muhammad, no one will come after him. We do recognise Jesus as a messiah though, but not in the sense you do.

If your question refers to "the man who'll return towards the end of the world" then read on for a brief explanation of the Mahdi.. the Muslim answer to the Christian equivalent of Jesus returning to fight the anti-Christ.

Some Sunni muslims/and Shias believe in the coming of the Mahdi.

He will come to do battle with the "cross-worshipers" and fight alongside Jesus and do all sorts of things heralding the end of the word as we know it. He'll descend some time before late afternoon prayers at some place in Damascus, Syria. His first job will be to fight a man that'll be called Dajjal, the Christian equivalent of the anti-Christ. Dajjal will have one eye and will perform a whole lot of deceiving 'miracles'.

Some sober Muslims see Dajjal as a metaphor for modern day propaganda (ie TV) which warps and corrupts our sense of reality and invites us to frivolous activity.

Interestingly enough, there have been many people claiming to be the Mahdi throughout Islamic history. Why just as recently as the 1850's someone in Sudan did such a thing. Maybe that's why al-Mahdi is such a prominent surname in the ruling elite.

I don't believe in the Mahdi myself, since it's an idea that eventually breeds (an illusory?) dependency on some surreal force to right the wrongs of the world. It's up to us to change our own condition - or so the Quran says.

The truth is that the Islamic Faith is "not a real Faith" as is Christianity and therefore if anyone would come from a Muslim faith then it would be more like the anti-christ. However, by believing in Jesus Christ and giving your life over to God, The Holy Spirit will reveal all these things to you.

You can go to the grave of Mohammed and dig up his remains, but go to Christ's tomb and it's empty, because He Rose From The Dead and will return Soon!

I once had a discussion with a Muslim theologian (a convert who was very intelligent and articulate).

He said that the revelation of God for a Muslim was the Koran and the revelation of God for a Christian was the person of Jesus.

Therefore the Christian equivalent of the Koran was not the Bible -- it was Jesus himself.

So there may not be a Saviour in Islam, unless it is the Koran.

The 12th Imam is the "Islamic messiah." The president of Iran believes it's his duty to usher him in. The 12th Imam is an Antichrist.

How convenient it will be for him to appear after the rapture to proclaim, "I have rid the world of infidels as foretold by the Koran..." just as the beheading of the remaining "infidels" begins.

His life become "PAUSED". The Prophet Muhammad S.A.W remains the final prophet. Jesus the Messiah (A.S) as interior the savior of all Mankind for Qiyamah. he will element in direction of Islam and he will say people who dont follow the tactics of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W and his coaching will face Hell for eternity. while he comes.. all of us be attentive to the whole Universe will end and we better make the final decision, particularly the non-believers. the undertaking with modern Muslims is we like to weight this Imam Mahdi dude heavier than Prophet Isa (A.S). who's extra significant? Imam mahdi or whoever he would be or Prophet Isa (A.S.) Jesus The Christ The Anointed One The Messiah? If we expect of approximately it Imam Mahdi could be every person- chinese language, Indian, Brazilian, Iranian, British, Indonesian, Australian etc MUSLIM. Prophet Isa (A.S) will no longer "instruct" something as each thing has been taught by ability of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W the final Prophet. he will say something like "follow me, become Muslim and worship the single God Allah S.W.T. follow me.. Im following Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). i'm Muslim." in all probability in Aramaic. while hes right here there will be not extra hanky-panky. And while he has performed his accountability.. The Horn will sound and God will wrap up each thing ending each thing. The Day of Judgement is next.

In the Qur'an Jesus is referred to as the Messiah. Muhammad said that Jesus will return in the final days. However, he is not God, or the son of God. He was a great Prophet of God.

'And in their footsteps We sent Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the Law that had come before him: We sent him the Gospel: therein was guidance and light, and confirmation of the Law that had come before him: a guidance and an admonition to those who fear Allah.' (Qur'an 5:46)

'And remember) when the angels said: O Mary! Lo! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a word from him, whose name is the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, illustrious in the world and the Hereafter, and one of those brought near (unto Allah)' (Qur'an 3:45)
