This may be because you are not putting enough butter on the bread. Because the buttered side of the bread is heavier than the unbuttered side, this usually causes the slice to flop butter side down on the deck. Or. You are Merlyn and have conjured up some sort of magic trick.

Bread landing butter side down usually happens because from table height when you knock it will fall that way down. Doesn't always happen, depends how hard you knock it and from how high up. You should be glad it never happens to you, it's not fun.

Actually, there is no greater likelyhood of it landing butter side down. I think it's just that we notice it when THAT happens because of the mess!
Mythbusters did a lengthy test to see if indeed bread is more likely to land butterside down but were not able to prove that.
Here's a quote from that show:
Does Toast Fall Butter-side Down?: BUSTED? If you slide a piece of toast off a table, it will flip once and land butter-side down. If you drop it straight down, you'll get an even split of butter-side up and down. If you drop it from a tall height, the toast is likely to land butter-side up because of the "dish" shape of the toast from pressing the knife into the toast while buttering it.

Mythbusters or not, buttered side weighs more, so although it does depend how you drop it, dropped correctly it would more times than not land butterside down.
The reason you don't have this problem. well maybe you use a light spread!?

Probably because your the small percentage that makes it that 'usually' the butter is face down.
So you must be special.

You're using a 'light' spread, not butter.
