If the Pope is apologizing that means he made a mistake (possibly a major one), why didn't God put the words in the Pope's mind to would help heal the situation?

The Catholic Church teaches that the Pope is infallible at closely defined times.

The Pope is only infallible when he, in union with the body of bishops, solemnly teaches that a doctrine as true.

This comes from the words of Jesus to Peter (the first Pope) and the Apostles (the first bishops), "Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven" (Matthew 18:18) and "He who hears you hears me" (Luke 10:16).

At all other times the Pope can be just as sinful as you and me and be in need of forgiveness.

With love in Christ.

The Pope is just as human as the rest of us,free speech and choices. He does not talk only through God. He is human and humans make mistakes. It's up to the Pope to correct his own mistake.

Because just like everyone else the Pope is given agency. We can choose to be offended and he can choose to try to smooth things over. And who can say weather or not the things the Pope said are a part of the Lords plan.

God's ways are unscrutable. We, mortals, would not know why He made Pope say what he said,NOW. I fear it is a pointer to evil things to follow. Is Satan raising his head? God will teach to the world through Pope's words and deeds what was wrong in Pope's utterances.

God does not have puppets, people have a free will. I happen to agree with the pope on this one, but I'm not Catholic. Do you think The pope cant sin?

First, God allows freedom of choice.
Second, when someone speaks to peoples of different cultures, they can be easily misunderstood. It is not necessarily that he had put his foot in his mouth, only that he did not realize that where their point of view was focused, would lead them to think his statement meant something geared toward that rather than a statement from his (the Pope's) point of view of the current overall situation.

If God controlled all people, then nothing bad would ever happen. The Pope is human, and people sometimes say stupid things. Move on. Forgive. Or ignore.

Because God has given us choice as well as good direction. All of us on this planet can and do choose what actions and words we will take everyday, every moment. Part of what we are learning is that there are repercussions for everything we do. ... and no one, even the Pope, is God and God is in all of us.

Who said the Pope is GOD's right hand man? GOD warned of false prophets. Stop asking why GOD does what GOD does. GOD allows us to have freewill...and if the Pope wants to talk the way he does, then so be it. It's not our place to say.

First of all what the Pope said was accurate...and the proof of that is that violence was the result.
The only shame in what the Pope did is the retraction of his statement...he needs to stand up for what he believes and not back down.
