My advice to you is buy a used Toyota van about 5 years old
which is not expensive. They are quite reliable, easy to handle
and economic on fuel intake. Besides, the spare parts are
inexpensive and easily available at any Toyota dealer.

If you are looking for a small/mid sized van, then go for a vauxhall combo with the 1.7 diesel engine...and make sure that the diesel engine is the 'Isuzu' version and not the 'Vauxhall' one, as they tend to overheat and get sluggish when worked hard.
If you are looking for a larger van, but cheap and economical, then possibly go for a Citroen with a 2.0 HDi engine fitted.
One thing to remember, with the three brands of Citroen, Peugot, and Renault, the diesel engines used are the same, just different cam covers fitted when supplied to the vehicle manufacturers....which means normally the best deal, the best specs, etc etc tends to favour Citroen.

You'd be better off with a couple of year old Honda/ Toyota than something else.
Example, 5 yr old Toyota has fewer problems than new Chrysler.

Don't buy a new vehicle!!! The depreciation even after a year should prove to you that buying new is a complete rip off.
First, go to your local book store and ask the staff to direct you to the auto reference section and skim through their copies of consumer reports and lemon aid. Keep your eye out for the highest rated vans.
Now, consider buying used. The best deal is a well rated vehicle that is between 3-5 years old. If you don't trust car dealerships try going the private sales route. Get auto trader and start calling private sellers.
When you find one you like ask the owner if you can take the car to a mechanic of your choice so he/she can give it the once over. If they object to this leave them immediately. If they agree, you may have found a good car.

Your best bet would still be a 'used' Honda or Toyota van.
They are hold their value unlike all the other junks.

Dodge is selling Caravans dirt cheap from what I see advertize, I think they are good cars, but althougth they all do have automatics and air, the really cheap ones have 4 cyl. engines (but that should be enough if you want to get by cheap.)
