the word antichrist means some one who is against christ... a word that was born within the christian faith... therefore is the word indicative of the faith's paranoid attitude towards all other religions?
if they aren't paranoid, then why does the word exist? it doesn't exist for any other religion ie. the muslims don't speak of a person in the furture called anti-mohammad, or hindus speak of the anti-krishna coming to kill all the people of their faith.

When the proper definition of a word, such as "Antichrist" is called into question, it requires more defining, Particularly when the whole concept is in question.
Antichrist as found in the Christian Bible translations, actually is a rewrite of the original Greek word in the NT texts, "Ante-Christ".
Ante-christ correctly translated means, IN the Place of Christ, Not against the CHrist, but our English word Anti appears to be a more accurate English sense of being contrary. There is a more basic problem however, and that concerns proper defining the word Christ, which in the Greek, means Anoint or smear, in the act of confirming as a witness some person for a sacred function. To confirm the Deliverer or King, that person was anointed with special oil, as per Biblical Instruction (Torah-Leviticus) and despite the continual assumption made by the NT gospel authors that the supposed Jesus person was anointed, no such anointing was ever mentioned or is described in the NT narratives. To be Anti christ, would properly have meant, to be against being anointed. To be Ante christ would mean that something or someone would be taking the place of the original Christ. TO add to the problem with the translations in the NT, whoever was being targeted as a possible Ante Christ, is not identified, other than to describe that person as being one who is contrary to the Christ, who is also un-named.
WIth regard to your question about the paranoia of Christians, is to question the mind set of most religions as well as political persons who are emotionally conflicted when the idea of being replaced comes to mind. And if you dont think that Muslims dont get into a tizzy with the idea of being replaced, where have you been the past few months. THe news media has certainly described the reactions of Muslims who take great umbrage against cartoonist to Pope who are Anti Muslim, and that they have declared their willingness to kill all people who are not of the Muslim faith is part of their Jihad doctrine. Personally speaking, since I am contrary to the CHristian and Muslim doctrines, I am properly ANTI Christ/Muslim, but I am not Ante, that is, I do not take the place of Christ or Muhammed. I am definitely against the Christian blind faith in a dead man god idolatry. Sincerely

1 John 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. 1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. 1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 2 John 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. We are not to turn a deaf ear to that word, especially now that we are living in the end of times. We are to open our eyes to it and recoginze who they are and turn away from them. Ignoring them wont make them any less real . 2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

ALL who deny that Jesus is the Christ, who deny the Father and the Son is anti (against) Christ. (1 Jn.2:18, 1 Jn.2:22, 1 Jn.4:3, 2 Jn.1:7 below).

1 Jn.2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

1 Jn.2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

1 Jn.4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

2 Jn.1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

There's no anti-Muhammad, anti-Krishna, etc., because Satan is only going to worry about the person who has real authority, namely Christ. It's not a matter of "paranoia" that the word "antichrist" exists, but a matter of prophecy. Having said that, only time will tell.

With regard to the next pope allegedly being the last one before THE Antichrist, that refers to the Prophecy of St. Malachi. No doubt there will be a lot of people going pretty crazy when something happens to the next pope, but when THE Antichrist comes with the power of Satan being passed off as the power of God, can anything stop him except the prayers of God's children and the REAL power of God? It's going to be an interesting time to be alive. I hope Christians keep their eyes on Christ and not on trying to knock off the Antichrist. But that's a longer rant I'll save for another time. :-)

AntiChrist will be the opposite of The True Christ. He will perform many fake miracles and sway the masses into worshipping him as the promised deliverer. For Muslims, they may see him as the 12th Imam. The Jews may see him as theri long awaited Messiah. He will be so convincing that if it were possible, Christians would be fooled into following him.

There is an evil trinity that Satan has design as sort of an opposite of the Holy trinity, consisting of The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit. These will be know as Satan, the Antichrist and the Beast. There will also be a false prophet to support the unholy trinity.

The word antichrist has two meanings, and two usages.

Meanings :
1.) Against Christ; hates all that He stands for
2.) Replaces Christ; stands in His place as an imposter.

Usages :
1.) for any given person who embraces/promotes murder, theft, lying, disrepect to parents, sexual looseness, addiction, hatred, and/or slander, hatred, or disrespect to God in any way (explanation : an atheist, simply for his beliefs, does not fall under the 'antichrist' moniker. However, a Gnostic or a Satanist would, as they view God to be 'the bad guy''. A 'Christian' who is pro-abortion or an pro-party lifestyle, however, would also be antichrist, as they enspouse ideals that are contrary to what Christ taught).
2.) Used specifically for a single person who will bring about Armageddon. The 'left-hand-man' of Satan, and compatriot of the False Prophet.

Now, to answer your questions, we have no paranoia about other religions. We are not looking to Islam for the Antichrist, we are not looking to Buddhism, Wicca, atheism, or Satanism for the Antichrist.

The Antichrist will come out of Christianity. However, he will sound, to you, to be the greatest peacemaker the world has ever seen... yet, to make peace, he uses methods of war.. To us, the elect few of us who remain watchful, we will know different and will not be mislead by him. He will attempt to unite the world, first with money, and then by world-wide support and respect (aka worship). Then, to the few of us who do not give him the respect he demands, we will be killed by beheading.

No offense to the President, but G. W. Bush almost fits the bill. He proclaims to be Christian, yet acts otherwise (paying back the evil of 9/11 with the evil of Iraq). He creates war, in the name of peace. He pushes a moneyless society under the guise of keeping the peace (under the Patriot Act, it is illegal to have more than $10,000 dollars in your possession for any reason... and my dad's neighbor knows that firsthand, as all of his possessions were taken by the gov't and was accused of being an art thief [if you knew the guy, you know that'd be the LAST thing he'd be], simply because he cashed-out his bank acc't and had a Velvet Elvis-like wall hanging). He pushes the idea of a national ID implemented via recognition of marks on the hand (fingerprint scans) or marks near the forehead (retinal scans). There's only a few differences between him and the Antichrist : 1.) He hasn't called for anyone to worship him as God 2.) Dick Cheney has not performed miracles in Bush's name 3.) He has not suffered a fatal head-wound, and miraculously recovers 4.) The most obvious difference here : Nobody, outside of a large portion of Conservative Christians and Republicans, likes him.

It is not about us being paranoid about other religions. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man may come to the Father except through me". We witness to people of other religions, in the hopes that they will be saved, and be spared of hell, and instead, be granted eternal life in heaven.

Nor do we fear the Antichrist... fear is not exactly an accurate word to describe it. Despise, loathe, be wary against, watchful... all a little more appropriate (think of a thumbtack in the middle of a carpet, and you can't see it. Do you fear the thumbtack? No, but instead, you are watchful of it, you loathe the idea of what it could do to someone who is not watchful, you despise the pain in your foot it could cause... etc. You know it's there, but can't see it just yet. But that does not make you afraid of it).

But yet, you miss the point. I could care less if he were to slaughter us. More power to him, I say. My concern is not for me, or for us... but for you and those like you. To know that you supporting him will damn you... that is what I'm concerned about. How many of *you* will he drag down to hell with him. I want to see no one die, much less go to hell. And I am sorrowful when I see those like you who do not, cannot, or will not understand.

God inspired the word to be written within the holy scriptures. It did not originate with any faith. The Bible says, "If you are not on my side, you are against me." Since the statement was made by Jesus (God's spokesman), I hardly think it was paranoia but a statement of fact made to show people that even by not making a choice, they have made one.

the muslims have another word for it, they call the anti-mohammeds the infidels that deserve to be blown up if they do not believe in the words of Islam. Same concept just different words.

The word anti-Christ is just a substitute for "the beast" in Revelation. He is a false prophet, and as Jesus was the last prophet, a false prophet would be an anti-Christ.
