Tiffany's is a classic, but here are some other jewelers you might want to check out:

De Beers
ADDRESS:
703 Fifth Avenue at 55th St
New York, NY

Michael C. Fina
ADDRESS:
545 Fifth Avenue
New York, NY

Fortunoff
ADDRESS:
1 Maple Avenue
White Plains, NY

Good luck!

If you know what you want, go to the Diamond Vault. I can't remember their number, but they're in an office building on 7th Ave. in the 40s. Ted and Howie - two guys take you through a lesson about what you should be looking for in a diamond, etc. before sending you on your way to think. They're very sweet and reasonably priced (about 1/2 of Tiffany's) That said, not designer settings, so it's up to you.

The best bit is that if you don't know what you're looking for, you know for certain that you're not getting ripped off. They send the ring back to the GIA after it's in the setting, and they go there with you - it doesn't touch anyone else's hands between the GIA and you. Excellent!

Haven't you ever heard of Tiffany's? The best place in the world she would love it!!! Good luck affording it though! Why don't you buy the ring where you live so you can get warrenty and then propose in NYC?

Diamond row on 47th between 5th and 6th. About 80% of all the diamonds in the US go through this street. If you know what you are doing this is where one can get a deal. Otherwise go down the street to Tiffany's.

There are more jews on this street selling jewlery than there are jews in Israel. Approx. 2000 stores/dealers on one block. Not are all retail.

Tiffanys cant go wrong there hun, trust me.
They have the most beautiful rings, but to be honest as long as you buy it with her in mind then you cant go wrong either. money doesnt matter, as in the end it is only a pieace of jewerllery and its what it means that counts more. If you love her which we asume you do and she loves you then a pop can ring pull would be enough.

good luck in popping the question

Go to China Town. There are shops on canal street but wonder off the beaten track and you'll find some lovely rings. Spend what you think is the right amount.

Diamond district. Between 5th and 6th Avenues, around 45th to 50th street. The prices will be steep, since it's NY. Good luck and congratulations.

Tiffany's of course!

The rule is that the ring should be equal to 3 mos. of your salary
