I did enlist in '97 and did go to Iraq (volunteered) in '03 and reenlisted in Iraq in '03. So, did and did, got the t-shirt. Next question.

You answered your own question, but I'm sure that was the point. Unfortunately, there are some who enlist for all the wrong reasons. Examples: the poor and minorities are targeted by recruiters in an attempt to make their quota of fresh bodies. Another example: The promise of the military to pay college tuition, if you live.
As for me, I would not give the only thing I really have, the only thing any of us really have, to fight in an unjust war which has fueled anti American hatred throughout the world. I would not die for nothing.

And this would be your Opinion... The war may be wrong but it is an HONOR to serve our country regardless of your Opinion... My Husband is Military and He will be shipping out in January... We have 2 children and 1 on the way in February... He wont be here for the birth but HE WILL BE DOING WHAT MOST PEOPLE WOULDN'T DO BECAUSE THEY'RE THINKING OF ONLY THEMSELVES... EVEN IF THE WAR IS STUPID WE NEED TO FINISH WHAT WE HAVE STARTED... MY HUSBAND IS A HERO WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT YOURSELF.... OH, THAT'S RIGHT YOU HAVE NOTHING TO SAY EXCEPT THAT THE WAR IS STUPID.... If I was younger, and did not have family obligations, I might for all the benefits they give now. Plus I would get to play with guns and not have to buy my own ammunition. Plus I would get to drive big cars and trucks and not have to buy my own fuel. Plus I get to feel superior to the local population who mostly would be a lot shorter than I am. However, if they raise the draft age to 48, like some are suggesting, who knows.

I was in the U.S. Army from 1991-1995. I've done my time. How about you? My husband was over there for 15 months & my brother is leaving this week.

I have already been there twice, and the only thing I see wrong is you view of the military, and it must be a miserable existence you have attempting to spread slanderous filth and propaganda to make yourself feel better.

well i'm married to an Airmen who goes himself and i don't think the military is the career for me, my husband LOVES his job, but maybe if i was single i would join, and if they sent me i'd be ok with it because i CHOSE to be in the military and thats where my country is fighting right now, people who go are NOT forced to join, if you join the military and think your never going to be in a war then your a friggin idiot

i cant enlist for several reasons on of which is my health and second is my hubby is already in the service. but hes not going to iraq. he will be going to italy and africa. hes in the navy. i stay home and raise our son
