Lets see... and this is coming from a straight girl perspective....
Kylie, started in a really stupid soapie with wild 80s hair and has done well for herself in the dance music genre mostly depending on her toight ***. Kylie lyrics lack genuine meaning and if we were never to see who is behind the music I doubt there would be as much as a fan base. It's her character and not her music that makes her esp. cos she's just done the cancer survivor media run, she's up high on the list of A-celebs

Madonna, been around for many many years and has effortlesly (however stupid some stints made her seem there are far more stupider people than her- i.e. the English contribution to Eurovision- what were they thinking???) as I was saying, effortlessly managed to mould and change and suit her voice, her music and her styling to the times. She's not only kept up with the trends but has established many of them. She is a musical icon and a big influence on up& coming artists. They may not like everythign she does but let's face it, she's a human musical experiment, has tried everything and made so much money that she's been able to recover from all the mistakes.

WEll, I think I'd vote Madonna even though I'm a fan of an average of only 1 song per each of her albums.Much more than I can say for Kylie

Madonna as she has defined eras but if you want to know really talented female musicians, you should think about Kate Bush, Tori Amos and Alanis Morissette.

There was a time in the mid 90s when I respected some of Kylie's songs such as 'Confide in me'. Unfortunately, as these were more introspective songs (akin to Madonna's 'Live to tell' or 'Oh Father', both superb) they didn't go down well with Kylie's audience of sex-starved middle aged men and middle-aged women desperately trying to hang on to the disco era.

So Kylie put on a pair of gold 'hotpants' (it's as if all the experimentation in the 1980s and the indie 1990s never happened) and gave dreary Middle England what it wanted- a glance back at the life they wanted to have in the 70s and early 80s. One gem emerged from this - 'Love at first sight' but everything else was inevitably populistic. .

Meanwhile, many young girls and teenagers are buying more mature, complex music than their parents. What an upside down world we live in.

i like both of them. i think that madonna and kylie produce two distinct types of pop music. i cannot choose between them really; i prefer the early stuff that they did in the 80s over the late 90s. arguably they were the main pop princesses of that decade, who have consistently churned out hit after hit after hit. of course, some of their records have become massive favourites with the gay and lesbian community and at various karaoke bars with their infectuous tunes and catchy lyrics that fans remember and that they sing-a-long to. both kylie and madonna are great in their own individual way: and the thing is even though they are both female solo artists, they don't sing the same type of songs as each other. i've grown up loving both of them as a 5 or 6 year old and appreciating the fact that they have produced some classic hits, these of which will live on as far as their status and popularity goes and in the history of popular music.

well both of them can't really sing....i think madonna is more of a legend with her own mind and who has steared her career path herself with a strong idea of self. i have to say though that her music has got worse and i only like her old stuff. she is a massive performer. kylie on the other hand seems like she has been a puppet with a lovely personality and great look, like perfect pop princess. however i don't feel she has much identity. but unlike madonna her music has got better with age!!
so to answer it would be old madonna, new kylie!!

I have to choose Kylie these days because I wish Madonna would put some bloody clothes on and stop the embarrassing thrusting she seems to find so necessary.

Kylie, because while she has constantly updated her look and music, she has never become embarrassing like Madonna, who just looks like she should know better and really shouldn't be wearing a leotard in public!
