Since you came to America so recently you shouldn't get as much as someone who's lived here for many years but you should get what is worth the amount of years you did work here. It's not fair but the justice system is crap.
You've worked here on a Visa maybe? Became a citizen in 2006? Then probably no, you've only been a citizen for less than a year. There's no way they'll give you any money. Not really right though. Maybe a few dollars a month for the months you worked here as a citizen.

If by "retirement" you mean social security then you are not old enough to receive it and it's based on how long you worked and how much you earned. That is provided you actually paid into the plan and didn't work contract labor. I've been paying social security taxes for over 33 years and I'm still not eligible to receive it yet.
Not all companies offer a retirement plan and with most you have to work for them at least 10 years to be vested and then you only get it at age 65. I worked 28 years for one company to get retirement benefits.
Why do you think you are owed something if you haven't worked for it?? Did you work before you came to the US and would you have received retirement benefits from there?

In order to recieve even partial social security you must be at least 62 years old. Your social security payments will be based upon what you have earned while working under your assigned social security #. Why on Earth would you believe you are entitled to retirement after only working for 5 years?. Here in America the average person works in excess of 30 years, and depending on the company they work for, may or may not be entitled to retirement benefits. At any rate you cannot collect a dime from social security unless you are at least 62 years old.

Lots of people don't get a pension, or only a small one, because they switched jobs a lot or, like you, didn't work here long enough. Few pensions "vest" before five years, even if your employer offered one. How the hell can you RETIRE AT 57 after working only five years and and expect to have anything? Where's your IRA and 401K savings?

Better go find a job that will last another 20-25 years. We didn't promise you a rose garden.

Absolutely fair...if you feel "entitled" to retirement go collect from what ever country you worked in up to age 52... the retirement age for Americans is now 67 and SS is based on your best 40 quarters....according to my calculations you have 8 years to go...may you have a few good quarters!

Unfortunately, we are living in a society where there are fewer and fewer pension plans available to workers. . .whether you've worked 5 or 50 years. More & more the system has moved towards employee pay-in's etc. to help guarantee retirement--in addition to Social Security of course. I expect that all of this will change in the next 20 or so years as the system becomes very overloaded with Baby Boomers with little retirement & high health & safety needs. Good luck to you!

the money you wish to collect is money i have been paying in taxes for 13 years. is it right for you to collect my 13 years of retirement money after your 5 years of work? no. part of the reason government retirement plans like social security are failing is because of people like you who have been collecting it. after putting into it for only a few years, then collecting it for the next 20.

Since when is anyone OWED anything?? The government OWES you???

You have been an American legal for a whole whopping 6 months and you want them to pay for you to be retired at age 59???

Sorry..... I cannot agree with this at all..

You are the only one responsible for you.... not the government, not your neighbors, not anyone.....

While I am not a big fan of social security the way it is set up, at least the people in it generally contributed to it.....
