I wouldn't need to stop because I'm walking. You said there was "no traffic whatsoever in all four directions."

Yes you stop. You never know when a child or an animal or even a person might step into your path. Habits are made not taken for granted. Start a habit of running stop signs or lites and you will end up in a wreck as behavior is learned and habits are made and they progress.

Bad driving habits quickly transfer from empty roads to city streets and eventually someone will die.

Yeah because maybe someone else coming from the other direction thinks no one is around either... Not worth the risk.

I probably won't come to a full stop - more like a rolling stop which would give me enough time to react just incase.
