There is a Yahoo group for cats with diabetes. You should join and get answers to your questions about isulin dosage and support from people who are also treating their cats with injections.

I belong to the Chronic Renal Failure (crf) group and the cancer group.

Like IT pro says, you should ask your vet. There are several dozen insulins that can be prescribed by your doctor. The typical ones in my experience are NPH and Insulin-R. There is another type of insulin called PZI that some vets will prescribe for your animal depending on the BG levels. Most of the time, they will do several BG readings to see which insulin would work best. The bottom line, GO TO THE VET.

Your vet should prescribe the dosage and type of insulin your cat should have. U (ultralente) insulin works very slowly and N (NPH) is also a long acting insulin.

Your vet should be the only one to answer this question. He/she knows exactly what kind of insulin to use and what dosage to use. If your kitty is not responding to the dosage your vet has him/her on now, please make an appointment to drop of your cat off for a blood glucose curve. Then your vet will be able to change the type and dosge of insulin.
