Notepad will let you type a basic document only. It is for people who do not purchase a word processing program like WordPerfect or Word or think they have no need for one.

If you want all the goodies, graphics, draw toolbar, formatting, etc. etc. you want Word. I have seen a stand-alone sale of Word for $41, online. Yesterday, in our local paper, Office 2003 student-teacher version was on sale for $99. Can't praise these two programs enough and I use them extensively.
