ozon layer is the layer in the stratospherecontaining the gas ozone. It acts as a shield around the Earth, protectingthe Earth from UV rays. There is a hole in it now. CFCs have bben identified as the main cause of the damagto the ozone layer. These man-made chemicals contiain chlorine and are widely used in aerosol sprays, refrigerators and air-cinditioning systems. CFCs are difficult to destory. ONce they Have been released int the air, they rise up in the atmosphere and are carried inchanged to the stratosphere. Here under intense sunlight, the CFCs decompose and release chloring atoms. When these clorine atoms reach the ozon layer, a chain reaction is started. Each chlorine atom can destroy as many as 100 000 ozone molecules, and this causes the amount of ozone to be drastically depleted. With reduced protection from teh ozone layer, we are now more exposed to dangeous ultraviolet rays from the Sun. An increase amount of ultraviolet rays radiation has been linked to an increased in skin cancer and cataract.Skin cancer and catarct. INcreased exposure to ultraviolet rays has also been linked to reduced resistance to diseasses and illnesses. The increase in ultraviolet radiation is also damaging to plant tissuesand may destroy crops. When this happens, food production will decrease drastically and many people will go hungry. Too much ultraviolet radiation also kills plankton which is food for many animals in the esas and oceans. With the destruction of plankton, marine ani9mal will die. THe animals further down the food chain will be affected in turn, and this could eventually lead to a reduced in our supply of fish and the extinctionof some species.

It is an area in the upper atmosphere where ultraviolet light from the sun causes some of the oxygen, which is in molecules of two oxygen atoms, O2, to recombine into ozone, which is molecules of three oxygen atoms, O3. This absorbs ultraviolet light and protects the surface from that kind of light, which is damaging to life, causing sunburns for example.

O3 is unstable and it wants to change back into O2, and it does so at some rate that is in balance with the rate that sunlight is creating it, but some chemicals, especially chlorine, can cause the O3 to break back into O2 faster than it normally would, which reduces the amount of O3 and lets more ultraviolet light reach the surface of the Earth.

Ozone layer is the layer of a gas in the stratosphere which reflects back solar radiations(u.v. radiations) to space which are harmful for us and causes sun burns and if exposed in high quantity can lead to skin cancers and if for a long time can also kill .
It is depleting because of polluting gases like sulphur di-oxide , carbon mono-oxide.It canbe hazardous for us and can kill organisms at a high rate.

i agree with previous answers. For the better future scientific researches tell us that it can be recreate by the vapour of CAMPHOR.
in India many Rishis perform Havans and used the Camphor as essential aahuti.and said it necessary for purification of environment.
It protect the Life on The Earth from the harmful rays of different planets and Sun.
