I am applying to be a Police Recruit at a local Law Enforcement Agency.
This past weekend I filled out my Personal Information Questionnaire. The Officer said that they will draw information from that questionnaire to be verified during the Polygraph exam. So he strongly advised us to be honest, truthful because we can't beat the box.

So I was. Now I'm kinda scared they won't hire me for what I have done. I actually never did anything too bad, but I did write down something I'm doing right now which I'm affraid will disqualify me.

One of the questions was: "What's the worst undetected crime you have ever commited? How old were you when you last did it and when?"

So I answered: "Ripping free music off the internet and burning DVD copies of DVD rentals for personal use. Last time I did it was last night. I'm willing and ready to stop doing that tonight."

If you have experience with this, could you help me out? Will they turn me down because of this? Thank You!

My husband used to be a police officer & during his younger years, was arrested several times from minor drug possession as well as went to drug treatment. He took the polugraph when being hired and they asked him if he had recently done any illegal drugs and he had, of course he answered "yes", they hired him anyway. So in my opinion and his (I just asked him) you have nothing to worry about :)

It depends on the Police and Fire Commission that is going to hire you and how they view that issue. I know police officers that have done acid and other drugs. As long as you are honest you should not have an issue.

You will get grilled about this at the hiring board - so just be completely honest.

If you don't get the job, it's not the end of the world - apply again somewhere else...

And stop stealing!

No, these kind of tests measure your thrutfulness and mental health. If you write that you have always wanted to become a police and never committed any crimes, that might be suspect. Not minor infractions like that.
