Yes,,, for sure,,, I eat mine towards the rarer side of med. rare.
The restaurants need to put that word of caution out to cover themselves, I have never had a problem serving or eating ANY meats, (except for the lady that didn't know she was allergic to shellfish, and ordered shrimp)

Any food can get contaminated. But if adequate care is exercised by those who handle and cook food, then there is no reason why it should not be safe. As far as the second part of your question is concerned, it is probably best to keep your intake of red meat to a minimum. Everything in moderation is perhaps the best way to stay healthy. Be that as it may, I love to eat medium rare steak.

Yes. From BBC News:

"Rare steak 'is safe to eat.' Meat can become contaminated during the butchery process Eating rare steak will not cause food poisoning if kitchen utensils used to cook it are kept clean, it is claimed. ..... [Meat and Livestock Commission] guidelines state that whole cuts of meat, such as steaks, cutlets and joints, are only ever contaminated by bacteria on the outside of the meat, which are destroyed during cooking even if the middle of the meat is pink, or rare.

In the case of minced-meat products such as burgers and sausages, bacteria are spread throughout the product during manufacture. These products should be cooked until they are piping hot throughout, with no pink meat left and any juices running clear, it says.

The agency also stresses the importance of keeping utensils clean while cooking any type of meat, to ensure that bacteria are not spread from raw to cooked foods. " - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/3743657.stm

There is a certain amount of risk that we take when we eat anything. Who would have thought that spinach would hurt anybody? Rare steak? Probable slightly more risky than burned up steak, but, in my opinion, worth the tiny risk!

It depends on how the steak was handled before cooking. Correct temperature, wrapped, then whoever unwraps it and puts it on the grill should either have washed their hands or be wearing fresh gloves.

Other than that, I LOVE medium-rare!

You're probably gambling, but I've seen people eat raw hamburger meat......I know, gross.......but if the meat isn't cooked I'm sure there's always a chance of some kind of of bacteria contaminating you. Animal's bodies handle foods a lot differently than ours do.
