it is very repairable and its an easy repair to a good tv tech. depending on the size of the set depends on if it is worth getting repaired. Your Vertical Output I.C probably failed because of bad solder connections and/or a bad pump up capacitor. This cap is uaully rated at 35 volts @ 100 microfarad. By the way, the TV repairman is alive and well. I know this because I happen to be one. I would say that is the set is 27" or higher I would repair it, under that, can it.

Yes it is repairable but TVs are so inexpensive today that you should just figure on getting a new one.

The problem you describe is called a loss of vertical sweep. It could be something fairly inexpensive such as an integrated circuit or it could be the yoke around the neck of the picture tube, which is a lot more expensive. Whatever the cause, it will cost you at least $75 (and possibly a lot more) to get it fixed. I see new TVs at Wal-Mart for less than $100, so I'd get a new one.

One more thing to think about. Standard over-the-air analog TV is scheduled to be turned off in Feb 2009, around 2.5 years from now. You should be able to get a set-top box to enable you to receive over-the-air digital TV and you will probably still be able to get analog cable TV for some time after Feb. 2009. But the bottom line is that I wouldn't put a lot of money into an analog TV, either fixing it or buying it. I would seriously consider paying more and buying a digital HDTV. It will give you great over-the-air HD quality now and into the future.

You know it's sad after looking at some of the replies you got on this. It is more then likely repairable. I work for a television repair center. It sounds like you have a bad vertical deflection circuit. I can't tell you exactly how much it would cost to repair, but it would range from $50.00 to $150.00 depending on the part and who would do your service work. Our company charges $45.00 an hour, and the prices I quoted is parts and labor. I think that if you are satisfied with your sets picture quality before this happened, I would have it looked at. The truth is, your older sets were better made then your newer ones. A lot of newer sets are not even repairable, they are made to just be thrown away especially ones bought at Wal-Mart, if you can purchase a TV for real cheap, your not getting a deal, your getting junk. So the answer to your question is yes, if you have a bad vertical deflection circuit, it is more then likely repairable.

I doubt it.....sounds serious, but if you an get it to a repair shop (yes they still have repair shops), they usually charge about $25 to diagnose the problem and give you an estimate. If the estimate is a bunch of money or the TV is unrepairable, then you only wasted $25. Well worth it instead of having a repair guy come to the house for $100 visit just to tell you it will cost $1000 to fix it.

particular that is repairable. that is referred to as vertical give way, and that's a somewhat undemanding undertaking with CRT TVs and video show instruments. often that is in easy terms a circuit that ought to be re-soldered, as repeated use over the years brought about the solder joint to placed on down. Is it properly worth it? that is as much as you, yet i might say so. no could waste your funds on a clean television while your previous possible be fastened fairly unquestionably.

I doubt it. When`s the last time you heard of a TV repairman? I hope it`s still under warranty. With the prices today, best just to get a new one. Sorry.
