You must be married in order to live in post housing. The only way he'd qualify for post housing is if you have kids and he has shared custody of them. Even then, you're now allowed to live there. Also, if he lives off post with you and kids, he won't qualify for full BAH. You have to be married to qualify for that as well. BAH is what helps to cover the cost of rent or mortgage if you live off post.
P.S. There are no ways around it. If you're caught in post quarters with him, he'll be kicked out.
EDIT: Just a note to Melinda....yes, they do check. We've been in 18 years and know several people who got kicked out of post housing. One of them for his mother-in-law living there after she came to visit and stayed. The neighbors have no problem in post housing reporting situations like that.

(1) If he is single, then he is assigned to the barracks. You are NOT allowed to live with him in the barracks. In fact, if he isn't signing you in every time you visit and escorting you off the base by midnight, then he's in the wrong.
(2) If you have children by him and are not married, he is NOT allowed on-post housing. Only married couples are allowed on-post housing. The waiting times for housing are so long nowadays that the chances of a Soldier being allowed to maintain an on-post house even with shared custody is next to nothing.
The exception to this rule I've seen is when a divorce occurs, when the installation housing manager will typically grant a set period of time for the Soldier (who is divorced) to find alternative accomodations.
Best thing for you to do if you want to live with your boyfriend on post is to get married.

mrsjvb put it best and simply in her answer.
It's true, you need to be married to qualify to live with him on post. It's also true that if he has custody of minor children, he will qualify for either on post housing or a housing allowance for quarters off post, BUT they have to be listed as his dependents.
They do regulate who stays in on post housing, though some communities are more lax than others. He wouldn't have to sign you off post by midnight every night unless he were living in the barracks, but he might have to sign you ON each time you came home. I've seen people do it and get away with it, but if someone reports you, you're screwed. I personally wouldn't take the chance. (It's also illegal to sublet or to charge rent for a roommate in an apartment that is being paid for by BAH.)
Being stateside, you have two choices, either have him claim the kids and get BAH for off post housing, or get married and qualify for ALL the benefits available to you as a spouse, no matter where you live from the health care to the family programs to the great shopping (joke there) on post.

A girlfriend cannot legally live on base, though in most cases one may seek approval to let the soldier's CHILDREN live on base, provided this person claims those as DEPENDENTS via tax forms. Your First Sergeant can get the process started.

Interesting that having kids together is not a big deal but getting married seems to be. Sign of the times I guess but I thought one should get married first.

on base housing is limited to married servicemembers or single ones with custody of minor children. guests are limited , anywhere from 14-30 days. if, however, somebody moves in for longer than that, the servicemember can be kicked out of housing.
servicemembers with custody of minor children would qualify for BAH, so they could get a place out in town and a GF/Fiance could live there with no issues.

well the military is really big on the family unit. that means husband and wife. they are also big on appearences. it looks bad for a single man to have a woman who isnt his wife living with him. this is because religion is important to the military. for a single man in the military under e-4 he will be required to either live in the barracks or if hes navy live on his ship. e-4 and above will get bah but you have to have a dependent to qualify for it. thats a wife or a child. you can live together in civilan housing but he will be pressured to get married. my hubbby who is in the navy has friends that live with g/f and catch it all the time. plus theres the insurance benifits you get when married and access to some of the best doctors. no you cant live on base with him if your not married its not legal and he will be in a heap of trouble
in response to the one above me. yes they do check to see who is in the unit. i live in base housing. you have to record every single guest. overnight guests. they check. the military police drive round and round everyday looking at the cars. they do check

if the soldier has children, he WILL get on post housing, just like if he were divorced and had partial custody of the kids. and if he gets on post housing, they wont check to see who is staying there. but you should get legally married, for the simple fact you would get a military id and be eligible for all the health benefits. really kinda dumb to not be married in that situation.
