I think that it's a common way of saying that someone is suffering from depressed mood and showing all of the signs we'd associate with depression: withdrawal, emptiness, tearfulness, low motivation, fatigue, loss of interest or pleasure in things they usually enjoy that go along with it. It's a way of saying that they've lost the ability to cope with life stressors as well as they're usually able to. The subjective experience seems to feel a lot like a "break down,": their world feels like it's crumbling around them, their sense of strength is lost, and usual defenses seem ineffective to deal with the problem or difficulty before them.

An emotional breakdown is when a person basically breaks down emotionally. They feel they can't take the pressures that life is giving them. Many things can cause this, death to a loved one, divorce, or even just fighting all the time. Emotional break downs can be very dangerous because the person maybe contemplating suicide. Believe me, I've been there! It's very scary! I got out of it by tapping into my spirituality, meditating and fasting. If you know anyone like this, the best advice I can give you is try to be there for them in there time of need.

I think it's something like I went through a a couple years back. I was under so much stress that I couldn't work and perform my daily activities the same as before. My favorite words were becoming" I can't handle this". I had to see a counselor and start taking meds and it took me several months to get better. I really had put in too many hours and overtime on my job. My supervisor had been taking advantage of my good personality and my dedication at work. Things were not going well at home. I was going over the edge having panic attacks several times each day. My biggest fear was not being able to perform my job and that I would lose my job. Everything had to be perfect and it wasn't good enough. I had to quit that job. I now wish I had quit it two years earlier.

u will defenitly know wht it is whn u get one.if u havent experienced it yet baby .. better not trouble urself wth thinking about it..... stay clear of break downs.. there is a teeny weeny line betwn normalcy and insanity.... streching ur limits leads u to a break down...and it is not easy to get back to normalcy.. unless u have some very good friend and family support.some symptoms are weeping uncntrolably, hitting head on the wall, trying to embrace the wall for support, rolling on the floor, crying and laughing at the same time, talking loudly to urself, shouting at god ,eating abnormally... e.t.c
