I have a sinus infection and want to shoot myself in the head. (not really) I take Zoloft and Vistaril and was wondering if theres any cold medicine I should stay away from. I know many cold medicines interact with MAOI's (what doesn't these days huh?) but what about SSRI's? Thanks in advance.

I have the same problems, I am using SSRIs and I have Sinusitis.
I have tried almost all cold medications. Nothing bad happened to me. Could you try new generation cold medications like Desloratadine, Fexofenadine, Levoceterizine, Ebastine, Rupatadine etc... ?
Escitalopram and citalopram causes the least drug interaction among SSRIs.

You can find drug interaction information from the internet.

I have allergies and take sudafed year round, when needed. I also take an ssri, lexapro. no interactions. I would check with your pharmacist about your specific meds.

in reference to your sinus infection; if you have them often, there is an operation called laproscopic sinus surgery. It's out-patient. I had it done when it was new (22 years ago) after having a headache for four months and 3-4 sinus infections a year, since i was a kid. I have never had another sinus infection.

I'd definitely phone this one in to your pharmacist. I'm no expert on drug interactions, but I know that they're always possible. I'm usually most concerned about possible effects on alertness and putting undue stress on the heart. Your pharmacist will have the most current info on hand.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

They all have sedative effects. My pill book says not to take Vistaril with antihistamines for this reason. Nothing about Zoloft and cold medicine.
