my husband reported to OCS EXACTLY 4 years to the day after he reported to Boot Camp at Great Lakes.
He enlisted already having a 4 year degree, so he netted E3 from the get go. he submitted two packages requesting acceptance to OCS. his first one(submitted while he was still in A school) was rejected. His second one, a couple of years later after he had been in the Fleet for a while and had several evals and had made E5 was accepted. He is now an Information Warfare Officer and just passed his 11 year mark.
The closer you are to having a degree, the better your chances are. Currently, the Navy needs High Tech degrees in Comp Sci, Math and any Engineering(chemical or Electrical)with at least a 3.5 GPA or better to be comptetetive. But you also need to be a well rounded sailor.. leadership roles, extracurriuclar activities, be of good moral character and pass the PRT higher than the minimum standards.

not sure about the navy these last two, three years but i remember when my friend was a e-4 he was trying to get accepted into the ROTC program on scholarship, but didnt get it. but having a college degree and going through OCS is valid for all services, for the army at least you can go through OCS if you have 90 or more of college semester units, and have 2 yrs of service, and you must complete your degree in order to get promoted to O-3. this may not be the case for navy since they dont need as many officers as in the army

Enroll in a 4 yr degree program at a college that has NROTC. Or if you are a super-citizen (like an Eagle Scout, Class president in HS, All-star track jock) and can get a congressional nomination, go to Annapolis. You will be an Ensign in 4 years.

Lots of incredibly bad info here. You need a 4 year degree and apply for OCS/OTS. There is no combination years of experience + college consideration. There is no applying for OCS after you make E-7 (unless you have a degree and meet the age requirements).

OCS officer candidate school requires either 4 years of service or 4 years of college or any combination of the 2.
IE. 3 years service and 1 year college.
at least it was that way in the 70's and 80's
otherwise, you can go to the academy, 4 years, get your degree and become an officer.
other than that, field promotions. (highly unlikely)

If you have a bachelors degree and get accepted to OTS. Yes it's possible. If you do not have the degree it won't happen even in 50 years.

It would be in your best interests to get a science degree, as opposed to an arts degree. ANY SCIENCE DEGREE. I found out the hard way.

Even as an E1, you can apply for acceptance into Annapolis, if you are good enough you will get the appointment, if you are not, you wont
