Number one, if the child was injured, he/she would not be running, Number two, tell your men to hit the ground on both sides of the road looking for signs of a ambush,
send a medic forward, carefully, with another one of your men, and try to help the child, then call in a medivac
helicopter with a gunship nearby and rescue the child
and get her/him to the nearest Medical Aid Station and
continue your mission. I have done that(1967), DAU TIENG, RVN-IRON TRIANGLE.

My uncle was in Vietnam, He tells or told the story much better, but I will try. They were raiding a villiage just below a hill where a major offensive took place the day before.. They were sure the enemy had to hideing weapons near by as well as using these villiages to hide in.. It was a small community of less than 50 people and most were in somewhat related, as they all were.. Any way, it was a search and destroy mission.. No prissoners, the villiagers were just left to there own after they searched and or butrnt the villiages.. There were more than one of these little villiages, and this was routine.. I guess I should have said that in the first place.. Anyway his emotions got the best of him and seeing the chldren and families loosing everything was getting to him.. His guard drioped and then during a raid Boom... Viet cong everywhere.. Just as you said.. What appeared to be an eight to twelve yearold girl in the middle of harms way, my uncle rushed to grab her from danger.. As he did, she leveled an automatic weapon and shot a man in his patroll in the face.. she turned toward him and again lifted her weapon and he shot her in the face and chest.... From his memeory he had an artist draw sketches of this child and he had her face tatooed on his upper left chest area.. He is one F ucked up guy.. I mean he is all right and all but the ghost he carries is so visable.. I do not know what I would have done and am happy I never have to know.. But living with the other cries of war tells me it is good for nothing.... Good for nothing..

My dad was in nam.
I would take the chance and help the child. I would rather be blown up by a trick instead of taking the chance that the child isn't saying help and the child die.
It is honorable and I try to be honorable.

I would try to save the kid. He/She is still a child and probably very, very scared. A lot of those children were taught to defend their villiages in case their parents were killed so they could survive. You have to think, too, where on earth could this child gotten the grenade in the first place?

i would help the child for it is not going to be forgivable for yourself and by anyone if u don't help the child , later
but the parents wouldn't be given the child by me i wood take the child and go back to the safe parameters and leave the child somewhere safe as i cannot jeopardize the whole troop if the child parents carry a bomb

I don't care if your dad or you grandfather's cousin's neighbor's penpal was in Vietnam...
If you're faced daily with the possibility of losing your life things change. People die. You didn't make the child run to you, someone else did. Let his death be on that person's conscience. Live.

Sadly there are sick bastards in the world who would strap explosives to a child, then hurt him/her so he wouldn't have to act hurt. But given a choice between being blown to pieces or coming home to see my family I know which choice I would make. It would be hard but I will survive.

Yes. I am a military veteran and a Gulf war veteran and I wouldn't hesitate to aide an injured child if it is my call to make.

In the history of my country, we used children to deliver weapons to rebels at the time when we were still under the Spaniards. So the kid you mentioned could be used as a weapon. If it were me, I would not let the kid get near me or my men. Cold as it may sound, my men's lives are my priority.
