I have got old music on vinyl records or LP's as we used to call it, so I want to copy or convert them to CD's as digital music what ciruirt need I buy?

Yes. Ads Technology even makes one for conversion of VHS video tapes to DVD's.

The device you want is called an Analog to Digital converter. Most of these pluginto the computer using the USB port and come with their own software.

You need an RCA cable to connect from the Record Player to an external break out box that Richard suggested (not the lab quality A/D Converters but devices which are made by Dazzle and Pinnacle) which then attaches to the USB port. The appropriate software with the Dazzle or Pinnacle will digitize the record player's output which can then be burned on CD. There are programs out there which will do this with no issues.

if going through a computer then most sound cards have a line in. this can be used to connect most record players. you might need to have a pre amp. most old record players used the amp in stereos to boost the signal. if you got a spare bit of money you can buy a usb record player. that connect to your computer and comes with all software you need. they're about £120

Why not just Audio in on your pc soundcard to a wav then vurn cd?

you can patch the standard phono out into a 3.5mm din plug and plug it into the microphone socket on your sound card, costs around £3 from maplins.
