You don't need a driver's license. Any government ID will suffice. You have to prove your age, hon.

Because having a Drivers License is showing how old you are and you have to be at least 21 in order to purchase alcohol. Without your Drivers License showing you are 21, then you can't buy it. Most people who are 21 and over won't drink and drive, they will wait until they get home.

Because, there's an age limit, for drinking... And its not just a drivers license they need to see.. They simply ask for one, because they assume, if your old enough to drink, your old enough to have a drivers license..They'll take I.D., instead..So long as it says your old enough to drink.. On the age part of your ID.. In Hawaii, we could drink as young as, 18 and in Arizona.. But, they changed that law, in Arizona, its 21, now.. I dont know about Hawaii, cuz, I was just visiting my uncle, in the 70s, when we went "clubbing-it" and I really was only 16.. But, they let me in, without "Carding-me!!" Amazing, how kick-back, the 70s, were, in comparison, to nowadays!!! Too many new laws, and times are so different now!! Not in a good way, either!! The 70s, were such "Awesome" times!!! Cops even looked the other way, about things in those days.. Now, they dont miss a single thing!!! Anyway, why are you asking? Just use your ID!! Smile!!!

I'd be interested to know who told you that.

If you drove up to the store in a car, you are expected to have a driver's license. If they saw you get out of the car, that would be why they ask to see that - you must have it with you every time you operate a vehicle.

You can also show a government-issued ID card which has nothing to do with your ability to drive.

Regardless of what they ask for, all they need is to see a photo ID indicating your date of birth.

Only to prove your age, nothing else. The age to get a driver's license is the same as getting booze.
